Scheduling UCA
I believe I suggested before that we could have scheduled UCA home and home, at no cost, and eliminated the 2 nonDI teams from our schedule. Would certainly have been great for us fans. However, as I posted a few minutes ago, every team needs a breather once in a while. We don't have a "definite" DI win on our schedule. UCA would have meant 2 more very intense games on our schedule- Intense games that would have hurt our RPI badly, win or lose. Considering the overall strength of our schedule this year, I really can't (and won't) complain about having 2 very cheap. low stress games, on our schedule this year. It will give the coaching staff a chance to give Reggie Sonnier, and some other players who need it, some much needed playing time under game conditions.

I understand why we schedule non-D1 teams. Cheaper to buy a win, and it doesn't affect your RPI. But I still don't like it.

I have always felt that way, too. But this year, I feel like I need a break from the intensity of our last few games. I'm sure the players and coaches do too. Also we're saving around $35,000 bringing in Philander rather than Grambling- no small change for our program. Also the RPI argument actually makes some sense. I have no problems if the league wants to go to no nonDI games. But then all schools need to do this and they need to have some way to punish teams that don't.

I wonder how many fans Philander will bring? I went over two times to watch Newell's son play, and they must have had at least 25 or 30 fans at the game, counting the eight or ten there to watch Nate, or see his dad.

I had thought they'd bring some folks when I saw the game on the schedule. There are probably quite a few alumni in Little Rock. If they were 8-4 they might bring some. At 0-12, and losing by 40 to old AIC teams they won't have as many as Tulsa had.
