The BB schools will never settle for this shift in power in the BE. I don't see why we can't split and still form a joint TV cable package or even run a "challenge" like the ACC/B10 challenge.
Why is this so hard at this point?
I realize the BB schools would never permit the shift in power. But look at those 2 schools. It took less than 5 games for both to drop to the bottom of the conference rankings. They help us not at all.
I'd say a division of conference priorities could work out perfectly for all. Put all the schools that play BEast football on one side, and the schools that do not play BEast football on the other. But then do like folks were talking in the thread about thinking BIG. Increase both sides to 16 schools, and split both sides into divisions. Or if you really feel funky, make 4 pods of 4 schools each in the 16 team divisions. You have a ready built tourney for whatever sport you prefer. The BEast basketball tourney could start at 4/8 different venues, and conclude at MSG among the 4/8 preliminary tourney winners. Instead of a football championship game, we could hold The BEast Football Championship Playoff among the 4 pod winners (
semi-finals & final {+consolation - if desired}). The playoff would determine the top 4 slots for BCS and bowl selection criteria...
I bet the TV money for such a conference package would be massive - if we did it right...
And don't talk about it taking time away from classes. We dismissed that as a bogus argument long ago, when discussing midweek night games on TV...
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a mini-playoff to determine The BEast champion. It would generate a good bit of revenue, especially if we held the games at places like Heinz, RJS, RFK, Paul Brown, Lincoln, New Meadowlands, Cowboys Stadium, or even Gillette (
NOT Buffalo, before anyone mentions it). Few BEast stadium approach such capacity, and bigger venues provide more opportunities for bigger TV audiences...
To get the Philly audience, we hold playoff games in Philly. That way we wouldn't need to have 'nova upgrade and we'd still have the Philly audience without the need of inviting Temple...
That would allow us to add someone other than Temple - unless Temple proves they DESERVE an invite. But IMO, Temple's going to have to work their @ss off to earn an invite - and I could give a sh!t about market. I'm one of the few that prefers product over placement, and Temple has a lot of work to do to erase the old Temple from people's memory...
I'd hold the Championship game in NYC - where else? - unless Jerry puts up a sh!tload of bucks to hold the game at his palace in Arlington, TX. Who knows? He might. He no longer has a Big XII Championship game...
All it would take is NCAA approval. The BCS and the bowl consortium would have no input. It could lead to playoffs all around once conferences start expanding and doing similar - and seeing how much money they make on the mini-playoff...
