RE: CIT Tourney - SC Upstate
The one thing for certain about a new MAC basketball season is that nothing is for certain.

The story line for this year was that KSU was a prohibitive favorite and everyone else was chasing us and the WMU and Ball St. would challenge the best MAC East teams. Right.

RE: CIT Tourney - SC Upstate
I was totally disappointed with and for our team last night, but especially for the newcomers who were left to survey the wreckage that was this season and wonder if they've made the right decision! Most of our W's this year, with the exception of the NIU game where we were still out rebounded, we not hugely impressive W's for the most part. And I know the current players have been tweeting with the newcomers and I worry about what has gotten into their heads.

We definitely had some talent on the floor this season, but for what ever reason, personalities, entitlement since we won the regular season championship last year, party time, etc., we just could not put a full 40 minute game together. Our team was almost as apathetic as the student sections this year. In tweeting with a couple of the newcomers, they were disappointed how our season ended as well but are looking forward to coming in and making this team a team and their team at that.

We can't rest on our basketball history, and if this program is to move forward then they need to buy into the program.....after all, isn't that what brought them here in the first place, to play basketball for Kent State! Last night seemed like a "sell out" to me and I don't understand why someone would want to leave on that note.....

I hear what you are saying, but for kids who have worked their asses off all season to get to go to the CIT (which nobody gives a crap about, outside of the schools playing in it - and clearly a lot of them don't care either) I can understand why they just go through the motions.

These kids have been working hard since October (in reality, year round) and once the dream of the MAC title and the NCAA tourney are gone, I get what I think they are feeling. When I was in school, the team pretty much stunk. When the MAC tourney was over, most guys on the team didn't want to pick up a basketball for a month. It's not right or wrong, it's just the way it is.
That is the way it is for losers. Winners at least have respect for themselves and respect for the game they are suppose to love. This team had no respect for the game nor themselves. It is only natural that the fans lost respect for this group also.

Huffman and Mitchell used to have to be dragged off the court, even after a long practice. They were gym rats. Is it a wonder that they were winners?

As for Sendy, he headed the worst seasonal coaching job I have seen at KSU since the 80's. Jim MacDonald, Waters, Christian, would not have kept this team in tact if it did not change. Thank goodness, we can say that he is a rookie and may learn from the experience. One big problem for the future is that this group of seniors has obviously left its mark on the players returning. I would say that tradition graduated a year ago. 03-banghead03-banghead03-banghead

It may be the way it is with this group, which just shows they never had the heart of champions.

Here’s a message to any current member of the current Flashes Men’s Basketball program thinking about leaving: Go. If you are not all in, there’s a line of kids willing to take your place. Point fingers and blame all you want, but wherever you go, take your loser's attitude with you. It matches your unimpressive resume.

I found it interesting in another post that Geno Ford was praising the quality of his players at Bradley this season, how they never gave him a minute's trouble, never quit playing hard, etc.. But, weren't most, if not all, of those players recruited by the prior coach, and weren't most of the Kent State players that may have given him and the Senderoff headaches recruited by Ford?

Kent 76 solves part of the “how did we get here” puzzle.

Going to be interesting to see the recruiting risks Geno takes at Bradley, because he has a bare cupboard and is under tremendous pressure to win.

What may be more interesting is what does Rob do with our mess. While it may be fashionable to talk about resources and practice facilities, you should have seen the box that Upstart SC played in. I would guess that not one of their players had a significant D1 offer. They whipped our butts on IQ and proper playing of the game. Our resources, limited as they may be, would make Upstart think they were at the Taj Mahal. Our player of the year and senior cohorts looked as if they had a monster hang over. Yes, I am ashamed and bitter.

I think you guys are overreacting. Was the season a disappointment? YES. Did we quit after the loss to Akron? YES. Does that mean the guys returning are tarnished forever and we should call people names and look for the nearest bridge to jump? NO. We have plenty of returning talent and a coach that probably learned a lot in his rookie season as a head coach. Relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy baseball and golf season.

Just curious. I wonder why they decided to even accept a CIT bid. If I read correctly, they accepted it before they even lost to Akron (contingent, of course, on their not winning the MAC tournament). Participation is not mandatory, at least I don't think so. I know accepting an NCAA or an NIT bid is mandatory (The NIT only, if I'm not mistaken, since the NCAA took over). I wonder who decided - Senderoff? Nielsen? A vote of the players? If the latter, I wonder what the vote was?

I doubt it was a vote of the players. They never would have voted yes.

Sadly that sounds like us.

I just want the guys returning to come back in heart and soul. Sick of the pouting and partying. The next guy who talks about leaving gets a bus ticket home.

Yes they were offered the spot before the MAC tourney. They knew baring us winning the tourney championship this was going to be the best offer. I just wish they would have taken advantage of it and not laid an egg.

RE: CIT Tourney - SC Upstate
Just got back from a week out of the country (and away from the internet). Sounds like I didn't miss much here.

I remember during an early game (maybe the preseason one) Jackson missed a layup akwardly and I commented to a friend, "I hope he's not the next Rashad Woods". As of right now I'd say he's pretty damn close. I guess he has a choice to make, he can leave, waste his NBA body and tallent that made him a highly touted recruit and be remembered by everyone as a complete waste of god given ability.

That would probably be the easy route. Of course, he could spend his entire summer working his ass off. Come back next year with a new attitude and make every one of us eat our words and give us a reason to remember him fondly. Either way this is his last chance and he's the one that has to live with his decision the rest of his life so hopefully he makes the right one for him. If he goes it only hurts him not the team since Sendy has more room to do what he is best known for, recruit.

One last thing, I read some comments that Greene will be missed and no one else. While I didn't see the CIT game I think that's unfair to Porrini. I don't know what goes on in the locker room or off the court or anything but I do know that he left as much skin on the MACC floor as anyone in a two year span at Kent so I will always remember him fondly.
