I worry about them because they're the only game in town, and they won't seem to let us play in the game.01-lauramac2

RE: The Ark Democrat is obsolete
If things start to improve to the point we have NCAA tournament relevance in both men's and women's programs consistently, they won't be able to justify that stance any longer. They will see a surge in demand and jump on the wagon.

Of couse they will have lost us long-timers to BTH by then.

Tell me I'm wrong, but, on game day the DemGaz did not have one inch of reporting on the game with ORU. I looked twice in the sports section and nothing except the usual who is playing who. If it doesn't have a saddle on it or the Razorback you can count on Wally Hall editing UALR out!

You're correct. This has been true on the last two game days. No article about UALR playing Illinois State and ORU. The only places it was mentioned was in the little starting lineup boxes. This sort of started last year when they would report on the game the day after, but not mention we were playing on the day of the game. They don't want to put a strain on the concession stands by attracting too many fans to our games.04-cheers

That's what started the talk about the newspaper on this board. No game day article when we were playing Illinois State, a solid MoValley team at home. No game day article when our women were playing another NCAA team and historical power, LaTech, at home. Just par for the course for our local paper.

No game day article today. Someone in authority needs to talk with Matt Harris and see what's going on. He's supposed to be our beat writer, and he doesn't seem to be writing anything except the game itself.04-cheers

Maybe they need to talk to Wally small's boss. I'm guessing that if the midget wanted us to have a game day article, we'd have it.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with Matt Harris, although I don't know the guy. According to Jeff, the Demozette simply had no interest in having UALR covered in paper. Main thing they wanted was, of course, the pigs and next was high school football. Jeff had to fight to get articles in there. Matt, being brand new, probably doesn't know how to do this or have any clout at all.

As I've said, I have no problem with covering high school football. But then don't give us that crap about being a state newspaper and that's why they don't give much coverage to local teams. That's just B##$##$ if I ever heard it.04-cheers

At least it seems that way. He used to write about UALR from time to time. But now, nothing.

To use Scotto's phrase, I simply think he believes we are not "relevant". I don't argue that there's some truth to that. However, I believe that a paper has some obligation to cover the only DI team especially in a city that has no other DI schools or competing pro teams.

They would in any other place besides "South Hogville".04-cheers

Relevance applies to every program. Hogs hoops haven't been relevant for some time. They may not even pull the curtain back tonight.

Yes, but they still got a game article and on the front page, at that.
