Not very good in my book and I am hearing that they have no idea how to transport the crowds. i even heard they thought the teams would not mind riding in on the subway? What a joke! IF you want the NYC area why not at Giants/Jets stadium?

Crowd transport can't be a problem. Yankee fans make it to the stadium more than 40 trips a year. Getting a bus to bring the teams in is not a big deal.

Here's a pretty interesting article from the NY Times on football at Yankee Stadium, specifically Army vs Notre Dame. Great item on GIs in '44 asking the football score (59-0) to determine if the English-speaking Germans were infiltrators. Also, the WR in '69 looking around thinking about Mantle, Berra, and Giants football, etc, having played on the field. Future football games at The Stadium can definitely be an event.

Someone is going to get hurt at Wrigley in that end zone where there is no space behind the end line and the brick wall. There's no reason to play it there if a football field doesn't fit with adequate safety zones.

The wall is padded. There's other pics showing ivy-designed padding with the Allstate logo.

Apparently they brought in some civil engineers to make sure that the field set up was safe.

what do they charge to see a notre dame game..?

I think the Yankees management are doing this because they can. The demand for the Notre Dame game is going to be high so why not force them to buy tickets to the bowl game with the Big East being one of the teams. I think this might help the bowl game not hurt it. Its something that pro teams do all the time: in order to get tickets to a premium game, they force you to buy it in a package with some less desirable teams. You have to remember that in New York a lot of the ticket buyers are corporations. They use this to invite their customers to games so that they can talk to them to sell them goods or services. If they do not have customers to bring to the games then they will allow the employees to get them. This is of course all made possible courtesy of the tax payer. I suspect the bowl game at Yankee stadium will do pretty well from an attendance standpoint because of this bundling practice for the tickets. Plus if one of Syracuse, Rutgers or UConn get invited then they will get fans who actually want to see the game.

There was a thread here recently that Frank The Tank started that mentioned that ticket sales for the package (Pinstripe plus ND-Army) did not sell well. NYers are willing to pay for good entertainment, but they aren't dumb either and if they aren't going to see a local team, they'll do something else.

The last figure I saw was that 51,000 seats had been sold for the ND-Army game at Yankee Stadium this coming Saturday.

That number is from a few days ago, perhaps on Monday morning.

EDIT: Ivan Maisel reports that the game is sold out:

Remember they said these ND neutral site games were a dumb idea?
People are buying tickets, they are on tv and now everyone is doing it.

I wonder whether this means that the Pinstripe Bowl is sold out as well. Hopefully they sold it out so it will be a successful start for the bowl.

Yankee management knows how to get money. I bet they could sell out but I only hope everyone shows up. Believe it or not, even at those high prices people could not show up if it's too cold or too boring an event. We could have a bunch of empty seats that are paid for.

Army fans weren't forced to buy Pinstripe Bowl tickets to get tickets to Saturday's game, so the fact that Saturday is sold out does not necessarily point to a Pinstripe Bowl sellout.

Have to agree with you that the Yankees management are good at making money. The main thing is that the bowl will have sold all of its tickets so the bowl will make a profit meaning it will be around for several more years. If they can get one of: Syracuse, Rutgers or UConn there then they will probably have a good turn out.
One more thing: Go Army!
I suspect anybody not connected with Notre Dame will be cheering for Army in this game.

Big game for Army. Having their best season in years, are actually bowl elegible at this point. A win over ND to slidify bowl in a setting like this would be a gret boost to the program

A great setting for the game. Notre Dame hit upon a good idea to stage this game in New York.

ND's team did their walk through in Yankee Stadium yesterday and were assigned their lockers in the Yankees home locker room:

The Notre Dame pep rally was held in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Manhattan:

Regis Philbin hosted a dinner with Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Lujack (ND) and Pete Dawkins (Army) sharing their memories of the Army/ND series in Yankee Stadium:

All in all, a great event. It appears that the Irish have taken New York by storm. The turnout is very high and the events leading up to the game are first rate.

ND was able to take a home game 1000 miles down to San Antonio last year (I was there, also a great event----pep rally at the Alamo, the night before the game at the Riverwalk, etc..).

Now, they are able to do the same 650 miles away from campus in the Big Apple.

An estimated 70 recruits (this class and next) are attending the game and are able to take in the festivities.

In 2011, it's against Maryland in Washington, D.C. In 2012, it's against Miami (Fla.) in Chicago's Soldier Field. In 2013, it's Arizona State in Jerry Jones' palace in Arlington, Texas.

I thought NBC did a great job with the game too on TV. The game definitely felt like an "event", and you can't beat the atmosphere of a Yankee Stadium crowd (does ND have any plans to play there again soon?). Big contrast with the Mickey Mouse operation at Wrigley.

This game wasn't just sold out, they had to bring in extra bleachers to accommodate demand.

As of yesterday morning, the cheapest tix on stub-hub for the three other-location games were:

Penn State-Indiana ... $29
Illinois-NWU ............. $49
Notre Dame -Army ....$149

Look, no one is denying that, even though it's been a generation since they won a national title, Notre Dame still has matchless national appeal.

That said, i watched most of the game last night and have to admit it looked like a huge success. Demand for tix far outstripped supply, and the combination of the Notre Dame mystique and the pageantry and patriotism of the Army Cadets gelling together in NYC made what was on paper a not very interesting game into a real event. Congratulations for pulling this off.

The Notre Dame Marching Band shut down Times Square yesterday before the game:

I really think that ND hit upon something here. They should play in Yankee Stadium every 3-4 years, in my opinion.
