No wonder why it is so hard to get JUCO recruiting info
I did a little Rivals.com snooping in Kansas.
This article has nice snipets of the prospects from Butler and Coffeeville C.C. Ben Axon is at Butler for those curious.
http://edgytim.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1141015
Anyway check this out:
Players at Butler C.C. are not told of their football offers until the season is offer which means that there isn't a whole lot of good info floating out there...
"WDE Ian Knight, 6-2/244, El Dorado (Kan.) Butler C.C. (2011)
CONSIDERING: Verbally confirmed that the Grizzly players are not told of their offers until end of season.
PERFORMANCE: Recorded three solo tackles and a sack in victory over Ravens.
STRENGTHS: Has a great get off and is an excellent pass rusher. He also hustles all over the field and never gives up on a play. Knight has excellent lower body structure.
WEAKNESSES: Upper body is still a tad undersized and extra size and muscle mass is needed to help with stopping the run.
GRADE: B

Did Axon leave EMU because of grades or for other reasons? Wonder if there's a chance that he'll be coming back.

good questions.
I assume grades.
I believe he is another Priest.
One thing which 'concerns' me is IF he left EMU on bad terms would he 'spoil the waters' at Butler for us????
On the other hand, if he left on good terms...

Hm, English is in third year next year and he's still considering JUCOs?
That tells me he's still looking for immediate help. I can agree on that for the defensive side of the ball.
As for Axon, I'm not sold on this kid's character or his commitment to EMU.

I'll do an 'recruiting analysis' after the season ends, but the gist is that English will need to do two things:
1). For obvious problem areas, e.g., DL and LB, need to go JUCO.
2). Then look for those players who will play their last game November 2011 ('11 not '10) and recruit a high school kid to redshirt behind him. E.g., for every Buche he needs to sign a high school recruit who should be ready to play in Sept. '12.

Axon is a head case IMO. I think he changed his verbal a few times before his South Carolina "commitment". By the way Wooden the article hints that Axon still has academic work to do to requalify for Div I offers. I am puzzled because the kid was National Honor Society graduate out of high school. Perhaps he did have academic issues at EMU. What I really didn't like about Axon is that English gave him an opportunity when no other Div I school would touch him along with a big splash press release re his bust for intent to deliver. In the article he can't even thank English or EMU for at least giving him an opportunity. I'll take a guy like Ben Thayer or Herb Waits who appreciate the opportunity to play Div I football and apply themselves over a three star prima donna.

RE said on his radio show last week that he'd be looking to improve the pass rush in the next recruiting class. I expect to see a few JUCO defensive players brought in. Hopefully they'll qualify and show up.
Don't think EMU needs any JUCO help on offense.
Also need to get a kick returner.

Agree, although I wouldn't mind a JUCO RB. Someone who could replace Priest. I'd like a Javhid Best-type player who can hit a crease quickly as the DL goes crazy wondering if it will be Gillett, or the RB, or maybe Marrow on a quick dive. This is what makes the offenses at the miliary academies so difficult to defend - lot of weapons in the backfield to be contained.
I'll try to get a good recruiting thread started this weekend as we are two weeks from the first big recruiting weekend of visits.
Here is a sought after prospect who can play WR and kick return. Being recruited by some good schools but spoke well of EMU.
