BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
He will need a lot of help but he took it to MSU tonight with a great effort. 32 POINTS AND 15 BOARDS

Our post play tonight (missed Dobbins) with 3 post players contributing only one basket against MSU - will definately need to improve

PG Play? LAMPLEY WILL BE BETTER

Green shot well and should have a good year

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
He took 30 shots to do it, that is not winning basketball. Need to involve others in the game you want to win.... 30 points is great but it was one on one, almost no assists on those buckets. NTM that MSU was missing 2 perimeter players and playing out of position.

Rebounding was terrific. Hung in there relitively well with one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Need to keep up that effort.

B-Bow is noticibly thinner and quicker, that's a good thing. He needs to start hitting those free throws because he's going to get a lot of them. I expect teams to be very physical with him if he's only shooting 50%.

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
- I believe that was a new career high in points for Bowdry (previous high 26) and tied his career high for rebounds.
- The team was not very efficient, averaging a measly 0.74 points per possession.
- As Dennis noted, the post play was noticably weak.
- Everyone on the team needs to work on shooting. Maybe Bowdry should take several steps back before shooting free throws; he shot better from behind the arc than he did at the line! That was a point of concern I noted for the team in their exhibition game also.
- Even without 2 guards, this is a very good Michigan State team, probably tougher than any other team on EMU's schedule.

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
1. Brandon Bowdry has probably been my favorite Eagle in the time that I have been at EMU.... BUT there were several instances where he looked out of control, seemed to be forcing things or was trying to do too much.

2. I fear that we're going to have to sit through another season of EMU basketball with no flow to the offense and simply passing the ball around the perimeter for most clock and then someone going one on one.

3. SO MANY TURNOVERS by the entire team... Seemed like every time down the court was a turnover or a foul

It takes more than one man to make a good team. It's going to be another long year.

Think I have some 'words of wisdom': 03-idea

Disregard the Marygrove exhibition and MSU game.

There is nothing in either which is applicable to playing in the MAC.

(or in geek speak, there is nothing which one can extrapolate from these games).

The worst MAC team could kill Marygrove and MSU could kill the best MAC team.

I agree. I've seen Concordia defeat Marygrove.

The MSU defense is very quick and agressive and most of the players have played together through a Big Ten season and NCAA Tournament. EMU's offense never got untracked and relied on putting up panic treys to try to keep up. We are going have to wait until the Canisius and JMU games to see how/if this team's offense gels.

Need others involved other than Bowdry. He can't carry the load each and every night.

Need to get the inside game going, we have the size inside, need some production.

I think the PG play will be alright , certainly by MAC season.

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
Watching the game, it looked as if we had no half court offense. Pass-Pass-desperation 3. Reminded me of playing pick up in the gym. Also, Ramsey was sitting for 90% of the game while Izzo stood and coached his players the entire time. Even the super subs in garbage minutes. It looked Ramsey was ok with losing the game 5 minutes in. While I thought last years blow-up in the last minutes of the Akron game were embarrassing, I thought that this style was pretty lame too. I think he needs to find the balance between blowing up and sippin mai-thais on the bench.

Or...
Maybe he had a physical issue that kept him seated most of the night...
His track record shows he's not a sitter. Remember the ref running into him on the court in the MAC tournament last year?

I agree that we don't want to get carried away to either extreme based on either game, but when we see certain common threads, it's reasonable to consider them.

Free throw shooting looks like a real problem for this team. It was bad in their 100-56 win, and it was bad in their 96-66 loss. It is probably going to be a problem most of the year, and it will probably cost them at least one or two games.

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
Totally agree the MSU and Marymount are not useful comparisons of what the team is capable off. That being said the only bright spot was Bowdry. We hit the same percentage of 3 points as we did the 2s. Did not notice any inside game-Janton, Balkema and Stewart. Lampley looks like he had potential to be a MAC caliber point guard and Burton showed a few flashes.

Would recommend patience lets see us play some mid-majors and then evaluate.

RE: BRANDEN BOWDRY IS A MAN
This outsider believes that Bowdry is the best big man in the league but unless he gets somebody else to step it up and help out, he will find the going tough this year. He'll still get his points and boards, but it is easier to shut down a post player than anybody else on the court if there is no other credible threat.

Good luck except when you play my team.

Bowdry is not a big man nor is he a post player. He's a wing.

Bowdry can play anywhere he wants to play, but agree that he needs some help.
