Issues Villanova is evaluating for moving up
Found on a Nova sight-explains some of the issues that VU is examining in determing whether a move would be beneficial to them currently to finish in the spring:

http://www.thenovablog.com/2010/11/10/18...a-football

Brian Ewart Talks With Father Peter Donohue (VU President) About Villanova Football

"The study is covering a range of areas. It was surprising to me how many factors are actually involved and one decision naturally impacts others. There is a massive amount of information that has been compiled and it would be difficult to share it with everyone. However, I assure that it is comprehensive....

and from http://vuhoops.com/2010/11/09/football-the-process/

Some of the areas we are examining are the following:

* The implications of a move from FCS to FBS
o On our present Strategic Plan
o On our Academic programming and the ratio of Athletic spending to Academic spending
o The positive or negative effect on the question of National exposure
o What effect it might have on our Basketball program
o The need to upgrade playing and practice Facilities
o Financial issues:
+ Our endowment in comparison to many who participate in the FBS
+ The increased cost of salaries and personnel
+ The necessary upgrade of women’s sports due to title IX requirements
+ Potential expenditures and revenues

Finally the Risks/Rewards that such a move could bring to Villanova."

Couple of great finds tonight Buck. Appreciate your efforts.

Glad to see that Nova realizes what it needs to rectify before they'd commit. I still think that at the end of the day they're not going to make the move.

I hear ya. I prefer to stay at 9 and wait until another school clearly exasperates itself from the pack.

Chongqing A&M in southwest China. They bring 32 million tv sets. They don't have a team or stadium and they are a day ahead being across the International Date Line but thats besides the point. It's all about TV markets.03-cloud9

No you don't have to amuse me. I ask that you post replies that deals with the topic at hand. Not about some University of Mexico or some Chongqing A&M. I know you're trying to be witty with your sarcasm. But you're just being idiotic.

Cut me some slack. I'm posting at 2:30am. I'm stuck on night shift in a warfighter exercise in a smelly ops center. This is the highlight of my shift so far. Feel honored.

RE: Issues Villanova is evaluating for moving up
This brings back into focus the real problems Nova is facing. It is not just about changing the status of the football program. It goes much deeper than that. The money that is going to be necessary to achieve this may well be prohibitive. If there is no help from the current BE members financially in making this move, how are they going to get it done? I would think there might be some corporate sponsorship opportunities and some big donors may step up but this is going to be complicated for Nova. I guess this why they are going to need several months to make this decision.

This is why the delays in announcing moving up to FBS. There is alot of items to consider. There is alot of reward if done well but also alot of risk and egg on the face if not successful. This is a tough decision about the future of the university.

In looking at the endowments Villanova's is about $265 million which is in the lower third of the Big East. And the attendance statidum issue has to be weighing heavily on the leadership.

I would tend to think they say no but they may say schedule us for the next 3 years... then we move up or cut our losses.
