Students voting on football this week
Any folks on campus who can give us some insight as to how this is going over? Positively/negatively? We will find out the results next Thursday, I believe.

I'd say we will get the affirmative to go ahead, though I do wonder what the large female population on campus thinks. I'm never really quite sure how the average 18 year old girl views football.

RE: Students voting on football this week
What is the wording of the question?
Do you want football?

Or something like...
Are you willing to pay $100 per semester for football?

This is key, as we learned at ETSU.

It is worded like: Are you willing to see a $100 per semester increase for football and title IX compliance?

From what I understand this is how they had to word it because they will have to present this vote to the board of regents and just "Do you want football" will not suffice in that case.

As for how the vote is going, I know a lot of seniors that are voting yes because they know they will never pay the increase so they just said why not. Still we have a lot of freshmen that come to KSU because it is cheap and their mommy and daddy will buy them a car if they stay local. These students tend to be a lot less excited about the Campus and more interested in the cost of things. So in all honesty it will all depend on who actually takes the time to vote.

NEVER underestimate the anti football sentiment. It will be out there. At ETSU, teachers told students to vote NO because money would be taken from academics(which was a lie), and coaches of other teams told their players to vote NO because football would take money away from their budgets. ETSU's vote lost 40-60, even after 2 previous votes had gone through. Hopefully your students are different.

I believe I read in the football study that 75% or maybe even 80% of faculty surveyed were on board. I don't know if every last teacher was in that survey, but going by that number I'd say most of the faculty are on board and therefore I don't think we'll see that kind of nonsense promulgated.

I'd say we have more to worry about from a few groups - the commuter students who don't necessarily have a strong attachment to the school, the usual brigade of patchouli-smelling types that inhabit the social sciences and visual arts schools, and the penny-pinchers. Though, really, an extra $100 per semester is a drop in the bucket in the overall scheme of things, especially when most students get financial aid or HOPE or what have you.

RE: Students voting on football this week
I think its going to be close spoke to some students last night and some seniors did not vote because they did not want to make a decision for students in the future on fees.

If the vote was after the Tech game last night football wins in a landslide.

Last night's game is why we need football that arena was rocking and there was a so much school spirit last night it was amazing

I sure hope that this vote comes out on the football side. It is going to be a big downer after this huge win if our students acted like idiots and voted football down. On the flipside, if they voted FOR football, then the momentum from the GT will just be amplified. It is a good time to be a KSU student (hopefully :) ).

I really would be surprised if they voted against it, but one never knows what people are thinking.

RE: Students voting on football this week
This really is the last thing besides funding (which KSU hasn't had a hard time with, see stadium, dining hall, dorms...) that could bring down football. I hate that it even went to a vote but oh well. We'll know at 3:30 I guess.

I got this today, "Oh you beat Tech, that's cool. Aren't you guys getting a football team?" Unbelievable how important a football team is, but it just is and I'm supportive of it 100%.
