Yup, it would have been closer with Dantin but UT would have still lost. Hard to stretch the field when the Offense connects on 0 of the downfield attempts. Can't really say the Offense lost this game though. Ridiculous to give up a career game to the opposing QB. The magnitude of this loss is squarely on the Defense and Special teams.

Are you serious?

Owen actually has the ability to stretch the defense with the pass.

Owens stretched the OFFENSE with his passes. And they couldn't stretch far enough. Justin Anyijong might have been able to tip a couple. Still, not sure Dantin would have made much difference. That's a good team. Owens did seem to improve late, but of course, it was easy to improve when the game was gone. I think he'll be fine and he did show some decent legs on a couple scrambles. I just hate to see him running for fear of injury.

The D definitely got smoked.
Also, I don't think Dantin throws that poorly. But we never call the deep pass with him in the game so maybe the coaches know it isn't in his arsenal.

Dantin threw about a 30yd TD strike to Cortazzo in the endzone against NIU last year.

The problem yesterday was on the Defensive side off the ball and coaching, or lack there of. The D managed to play a game and not do anything positive. The Offense gave us a chance in the second half to get back in the game, but our D could not make ONE stop the entire game. Our Offense will be better long term with Owens. Once Owens learns to take a bit off his deep throws, he is going to be very dangerous in this league. That is a learnable skill and comes from building chemistry with his receivers. Remember, this is the first week he has taken all the 1st team snaps in practice. We will win a MAC Championships over the next 3 years if Owens is our starting to QB.

Completely agree with this. We got dominated at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball last night, but over the course of the season the OL has been more disappointing.

I think they had Harnish extremely well prepared for our defense tonight. He gashed us one way and then the other all night. Their RB's are good, but it was Harnish who sliced and diced us and we never had an answer. Our defense is good, but it must be pretty easy to read. They exploited every single vulnerability we have.

The offense--our QB's are not great. At least not yet. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain that replacing Steve Williams was imperative. If the plan was actually to build the offense around Eric Page, then someone doesn't know what they're doing. That's nothing against Eric at all. At this level you must have a tall, deep threat. Now, whether the QB's could hit him if we had him as something else, but we apparently don't have him so there is no way to know. They should have brought in a JUCO or something. Our offense has scored enough points to win some games, but it is still in want of talent.

This was a pathetic showing, especially considering that Western almost beat the Huskies a week ago, then turned around and lost to Central. I agree that we're just as capable of losing the last two as we are winning them.

Owens definitley spread the ball around more than Dantin. Not sure if that's by design or what but a couple passes to Jones for TDs (well, except for a heel on th eone) showed that we cna use a tall receiver, especially in goal line situations. We used the backs, Reedy, Page, tight end on a couple failed passes and Jones-(he may be a tight end but he looks more like a WR-whcich is he?).

I think REedy is going to be a good one- we seem to be using him in a lot of different ways for a true frosh.

I've been waiting to see something from him. He was the Pinellas County (St. Pete, FL) player of the year last year and tore up the competition. I was shocked that we were able to land him based on the interest he was receiving from major schools. I think he will be a good one and needs to get his number called some more to gain valuable experience heading in to next year.

Reedy is also a very nice young man who is well spoken. A great get in a 2010 class that will shine in the next 2-3 years. Add another good class this year [hopefully] and the Rockets will be ready to fire.
