No, I'm blaming the MAC for the reason NO MAC TEAM is included in any talks........except for maybe Temple. That includes your precious - we went Independent and sucked so we went to the Big West and eventually came back to the MAC - Northern Illinois Huskies.
How is it the MAC's responsibility to make its teams attractive to other leagues? Marshall won their way out and were far enough South to be attractive. UCF was never a good match geographically and that is what makes me think the MAC shouldn't reach too far South (or too far West) in any expansion plans. Going East at least targets schools that are closer to Buffalo and Temple.

You're not getting the point. First, every school in the MAC is to blame....including Toledo. We all have bad attendance, technically speaking, and to most of our fans we are in afterthought to a BCS school or two....heck in some cases three.
Any MAC school would need to get into another conference that has slightly bigger budgets to first let your schools budget increase some. Going from the MAC to a BCS school at once is just too much of a budget increase. They would need to increase attendance, and playing against school that are more known than a very regionalized conference would likely help bring in the casual fan....which is what a MAC school would need to bring in if they are going to increase attendance by a recognizable number. Next is prestige throughout the college football world. Because the MAC has such a bad reputation right now for losing OOC games and bowl games, a move to another conference and winning in that conference would instantly give the school more recognition in the college football world.
So essentially, a MAC school would have to decide it doesn't want to stick with the status quo that the MAC has portrayed recently, and get themselves into another conference. Doesn't matter which school we are talking about.
The only other option I see is to dominate the MAC and OOC games for 7-8 years straight like Boise State has done, but even then they are moving up to the MWC before they would get a shot at a BCS conference. The WAC has a similar reputation in the college football world as the MAC, and maybe even a slightly better rep, and even Boise State has to take a small step first after all of their success.
