Welcome to the latest UALR Fall Sports Report.
Volleyball had split the two games at home, beginning with a 3-0 loss to FIU on Friday. Despite their 8th straight conference defeat, UALR showed signs of growth from sophomores Emily Pepperman and Paige Gantar. The duo was quite effective on Sunday, as UALR broke their long losing streak by defeating FAU, 3 sets to 2. The Trojans (1-8, 3-16) fought back after losing the first set to take a 2-1 lead, but the Owls came back in the 4th set to tie the match at 2. UALR finally broke away in the deciding set to win 15-8 and the match, 3 sets to 2. UALR will be on the road for the last time this weekend to face LA-Lafayette on Friday, then travel to Monroe to face the winless Warhawks before finishing the season at home with 5 straight matches. UALR neds to win at least 4 of their last 7 to qualify for the Sun Belt Volleyball Tournament.
Womens soccer went above and beyond against North Texas at home and on the road at #21 Denver. UALR scored first against North Texas on a fantastic goal by Dana Pearson, but that lead was short-lived by a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. The game would end after two overtime period, with GK Jane Picarelli having saved 18 shots on the night. On Sunday, UALR had their best effort at Denver in their history. Freshman Holly Holland tied the score at 1 in the 31st minute, while fellow freshman Adrianna Queen tied the score at 2 apiece in the 63rd minute. Despite Jane Picarelli's 11 saves and the team's overall effort, UALR (6-12-1, 2-7-1) lost 3-2 in overtime, which disqualified the Trojans from getting into the conference tournament. UALR will finish the season on Friday night with "El Clasico de Arkansas" match against in-state rival Arkansas State. The match is also Senior Night, honoring both seniors, Danielle Dunsworth and Jane Picarelli.
