Kid killed while filming FB practice at Notre Dumb
Very sad. I can't believe that anybody woud even allow the kid to go up in that thing in 50+ mph wind gusts. Looks like the kid posted his thoughts shortly before the "accident". Btw, my writing Notre Dumb was no "accident".

RE: Kid killed while filming FB practice at Notre Dumb
Saw the story about this yesterday but didn't see these details...

Quote:At 3:22 p.m., just before the start of practice, he posted, "Gusts of wind up to 60 mph well today will be fun at work ... I guess I've lived long enough."

At 4:06 p.m., "Holy (expletive) holy (expletive) this is terrifying."

Forty-four minutes later, the portable tower, which stands about 50 feet above the field, tipped over.

That is seriously messed up.

And somewhat off topic, but why the hell were they practicing outside anyway?

Quote:In fact, HHS Hire, a company that deals in lifts, specifically states that the lift should never be used in wind speeds greater than 25 mph.

Notre Dame is in some deep ****

Heard on WSCR today that this has been officially labeled "workplace fatality". Not sure what that means for Notre Dame.

It means they will settle the lawsuit for 10's of millions of dollars and the university will go on being as arrogant and ignorant as it always has. The sheep will still flock to the games and plop down $70 a ticket(face value) and nobody(except the family) will remember this next season.

Why the hell are you listening to WSCR? 03-banghead You should be listening to something informative like 820 AM or if you are close enough, 92.5 out of DeKalb. 05-stirthepot 03-lmfao

There is no excuse possible for using a scissor lift outdoors in those conditions.

Whoever in the chain of authority made the decision to use that equipment yesterday should be fired at a minimum, and if there's a law they can be prosecuted under, dragged into court.

To be fair(unless you read it somewhere else), the article states they were on the practice field after the accident but doesn't actually say they were practicing.

Wow, just wow...

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/28457...29.article

Quote:At a press conference on campus Thursday afternoon, Swarbrick said that when he walked into the LaBar Practice Complex ''around 4:47 or 4:48'' Wednesday, weather conditions were not an issue.

''It never crossed my mind that it was unique in any way,'' he said. ''It couldn't have been more normal in terms of the weather conditions at the time.''

yeah ok, minus the wind speed of 30mph and wind gusts up to 50mph at that time.

+1. At least the Stephanie Miller show. She's got to be hilarious even if you dont' agree with her.

This might not be worthy of a Darwin Award, but in the time it took the kid to tweet a message, he could have lowered the lift.

RE: Kid killed while filming FB practice at Notre Dumb
He went to ND and my alma mater, Carmel Catholic, so he obviously was a smart kid (03-shhhh) but with all the wind advisories and such I'm pretty such I would have said something to someone about being concerned about being up there.

I know he's got a sister at ND and a brother that's a Soph. at Carmel. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
