BGSU will host first- and second-round games at the Stroh Center either Saturday, March 17, and Monday, March 19 or Sunday, March 18, and Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Exact dates will be determined in June of 2011, with ticket information to be released at a later time.
The 2011-12 season will be the first year of operation for the Stroh Center, which will serve as the new home for the Falcon men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics teams. BGSU’s current facility, Anderson Arena, served as the site for first-round women’s games in 1989, 1993 and 1994.
"We are excited to be selected as a site for the 2012 NCAA Tournament," said BGSU Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. "To host the first- and second-round games in Bowling Green is a testament to our staff and the work they put into the process, and obviously the incredible fan support our community displays for women’s basketball. The games will provide a showcase for the new Stroh Center and for all of BGSU from visiting fans and a national television audience."
In addition to Bowling Green, other first- and second-round sites for 2012, as approved by the Administrative Committee of the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet, include Ames, Iowa; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Bridgeport, Connecticut; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Chicago, Illinois; College Park, Maryland; College Station, Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; Nashville, Tennessee; Norfolk, Virginia; Norman, Oklahoma; Notre Dame, Indiana; Spokane, Washington; Tallahassee, Florida; and West Lafayette, Indiana. The four selected regional sites are Des Moines, Iowa; Fresno, California; Kingston, Rhode Island; and Raleigh, North Carolina.
"As a committee we are excited that in 2012 our championship will be hosted by institutions from 14 different conferences," said Marilyn McNeil, vice president and director of athletics at Monmouth University and chair of the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee. "Having this blend of sites is important to the committee as we continue to look for ways to grow our game."
