How did you ever end up scheduling a game with Louisiana-Lafayette??

yeah i think i remember a game between Kent State and UL-L a couple of years ago.

i'm not totally sure how we ended up scheduling them other than this is the scheduling formula Frank installed...schedule a big-name (i.e., BCS) team, a I-AA team, and a couple of I-A teams that should provide somewhat competitive games (hopefully end up being wins for us). we played at UL-L back in 2007 or 2008 and now they're coming here.

maybe that would be a good thing if Ohio destroys ULL. it would be another reason for ULL get rid of their crappy head coach that they have had for years by getting beat up by Ohio. UNT has already fired theirs.

It's time for the SBC to bring in coaches with the passion to win..

Yes... you better 04-cheers

I hear you, we do a 1AA with Nova, which is a good 1AA game. Next year we have PSU, Maryland Terps and Army. Pretty good. I guess you only play 4 OOC games?

Alabama to start the year, then Louisiana Lafayette, South Alabama, and Kansas State. So we have an elite team, an improving BCS team, and two SBC teams. I think that is pretty good for a MAC squad.

When was - or what was - the last bowl game Kent participated in?

It was the 1972-1973 season and they went to the Tangerine Bowl in 1973. This team had Don James as head coach (led the University of Washington to a national title in 1992?) and had many well known players jack Lambert (Professional Hall of Fame player), Nick Saban, and Gary Pinkel (coach of the University of Missouri). Unfortunately for Kent all of our best years were when getting into a bowl was very difficult.

Thanks for that, yes, before the days of 35 bowl games... I probably should remember that as I am 48... certainly remember Lambert and the Tangerine Bowl.

Changed my previous post. South Alabama is in the Sun Belt. Apologies to any of their fans. So Kent is not currently playing any FCS teams next year.

Wait now I am not sure what to call them. South Alabama just added a football team. They are "in" the SBC but is working its way up to full FBS status (should fully get there in 2013). So I do not know what you want to call them.

RE: Bowl projections after 10/23 games
Kent almost made it back to a bowl in 74 when they led the undefeated Miami squad (in Oxford) when L. Poole went in for a TD for Kent with less than a minute remaining. I was at the game and as long time KSU'ers and MU posters here may recall MU broke their heart with a lil' flea flicker that I think went to Randy Walker yo set up Dave Draught kicking a 39 yd FG as time expired to give Miami a one point victory I think. Then Miami went on to win the Tangerine Bowl again, beating Georgia rather easily (beat Florida convincingly the year prior).
