Imp. Thread: '2010 and Beyond OL"
This is first of four such threads I'm creating so that we can sum up our thoughts and posts on single areas of the FB team.

OL is kind of a favorite for 'green shoot' posters who have heard about the frosh who are redshirting this year.

On this year's team, Davis, Buche, DeMaster, Sorgatz, etc. seems to be a generally effective unit, despite their problems vs. Ohio.

Davis and DeMaster are two anchors of this year's squad, along with Buche.

It appears from multiple sources (not simply re-posting other folks posts) that the redshirt kids are a promising group.

They seem to meet the "UofM Model (Carr)" model: Big boys. Also kind of like Iowa Hawkeyes 'big farm boys'.

Two of the best, and I assume ready to play next year, are Hansen (from Nebraska) and McFadden from Flint. Both are Big Ten sized kids.

I assume the McFadden will take an OT position vacated when DeMaster completes his eligibility.

I assume Hansen will compete for a starting position at OG.

Who replaces Davis at center next season? Is Sorgatz a possiblity at center?????

I believe Woods is one of the 'baby Eagles' redshirting. Believe he is a center on that 'redshirt OL team'. (oops, he's a guard)

Watman? Does he slide over from OG? Replaced by Hansen??? or Woods?

Couple I haven't anything about recently: Gambrell (sp) the kid from CLE Glenville and Garrett Parker.

I assume Parker is in school. Someone posted that he is 'freakish' strong. If he is in school, will he do spring ball???

Is Gambrell an OL candidate? or another position such as TE?

Will EMU verbal Watson (IL) play TE or is he a possible OL (or even DL) as suggest by 'Nickle.

Next thread: Skill positions including QB, RB and ends.

RE: Imp. Thread: '2010 and Beyond OL"
I did a search sorted by position from Scouts.com.

Only 6 OL kids targeted according to their database: 3 OTs, 2 OG (but one is a REAL BCS school target), and 1 C.

Suggested that English has most of the OL kids he needs on campus and might only use a few scholies here.

I presume Garrett Parker is one newcomer to the growing number currently in the program.

To me, this 'confirms' that the baby Eagles are expected to grow into a real good OL. I don't mean like the UofM "Fab Five" but that several of the redshirting OL kids will earning starting births in due time with the others possible or possibly backups on the 2-deeps.

I think it was the "posters diarrhea" that gave it away :-)

Anyone have a good feel for the potential of the backup OLs?

McCord, Neal, etc.

(I didn't mean to short change them).

You missed Erbes and Allison the kid from NY.

I believe very few of these freshmen lineman had any other Div I offers.

Redshirting will help them and yes they are big size wise.

I believe they are down the list of the frosh OLs who would be ready to play next year.

All the OLs are at different stages of development.

I believe Hansen and McFadden will prove to be the kids we'll be talking about for years at EMU.

RE: Imp. Thread: '2010 and Beyond OL"
This is pretty far O/T for FB but is a story of a 4 star hoops recruit at Akron (Zeke Marshall) and the amount of weight gain and strength work he had to do between his frosh and soph years (started last night).

His strength last season was non-existant. Quite frankly he should have been redshirted if at all possible.

But look at him now after off season COLLEGIATE weight training.

http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/105072119.html

This is one reason OL frosh should redshirt their first year.

RE in his signing day interview with Nemo talked about how hard it is to find DLs who are strong enough to play as frosh and his thoughts that as JUCOs aren't as highly recruited he could get some kids more game ready.

Normally can't recruit OL and DL prospects as frosh ready to play candidates.

That's one of MANY reasons for thinking in terms of 'building' a program and not 'recruit a class". 03-idea

I know McCord's father recently passed away.
I saw that on Facebook. A friend of mine is his cousin.
Just another reminder that we just talk sports, these student athletes live this and their lives...

Bump.

Neal is starting at OT.

Watman could move over next season to C replacing Davis per another poster.
