... a BLACK day for Uconn, what with this result and the death-knell possibly being sounded for the Calhoun era in men's basketball.
There's always women's hoops, i suppose ...

RE: UCONN-RU Game
There were a lot of quick scores in that game. I guess both defensive coordinators missed something in their planning...

the defensive coordinator should have been fired after last years disaster, the same thing again this year, you don't let them score that flucking quick......then they had a reciever on a linebacker when they gave up the 2nd big play that led to the winning fg
It does seem rather elemental that when you're up 7 with only a few minutes left, the defense should be physically configured and mentally oriented to preventing the deep ball. And if somehow the opponent hits one anyway to tie it, then you'd be doubly-alert to it the next time around. But i guess not ...
That said, you have to hand it to Rutgers: They just kept battling and finally made the plays they needed to. For a long time, they looked to be the loser, but this is one time their "chopping wood" or "sawing wood" or whatever it is philosophy was borne out. Plus, Rutgers looks sharp in those almost-all-red uniforms, and they have a great atmosphere at their stadium.

We have had a good game against Oklahoma, and one good quarter against Indiana State. I need more than that to tell me what we can really do this year.

RE: UCONN-RU Game
Get a real O-Line in there, cut the wildcat down even more and get rid of the bad penalties and that team looks very very good with Chas Dodd in there. I was as high on Savage as anyone, but Dodd's had the best performance of any quarterback I've ever seen at Rutgers. (Granted I only became a fan my freshman year back in 2003. And granted its only one game.) He has that natural football IQ that you just can't teach. Unfortunately for Savage he will be relegated to the pine for undersized but very impressive Dodd.
Very impressed with Schiano making big adjustments on D at halftime and finally allowing the playcalling to get mixed up properly. There's hope for this team yet I guess.

The only caveat I would add about Dodd is that this was his first game, so UConn didn't know what to expect. Much like Daniels last year for USF, he might not do as well once teams have a chance to game plan to stop him specifically. I do however agree that he looks like he is a keeper. I think he showed a great deal of composure given his relative inexperience.

RE: UCONN-RU Game
I waited until this morning to post cause I was so pissed about the loss last night. Edsall is now the new Wanny. Coached absolutely a horrible game last night. He handed the game to RU on a platter. I used to support Edsall, but now I am hoping UCONN will make a change soon. He has taken UCONN as far as he can get and won't go much further. I thought this was the year but it was not meant to be. What kind of completely BS playcalling was that with 6 mins left he ran 3 straight times up the middle? It was a joke how UCONN lost that game.
If UCONN can't beat RU, they got no business talking about BE championship or anything. Coaching lost this game pure and simple. The monkey on RU's sideline won this game yet again on some miracle drive. Edsall helped him out and he gladly took the gift.
Good luck rest of the BE teams. We need some new coaches in this conference badly.
