Yep, he was a freshman and I believe he got to play some near the end of the game.

Yes, his college debut in the second half of that game... went 11-21.

I remember that game very well. Had no clue about Chris Wallace coming in as the new QB - or that Dwyane Harris would be as good as he was - and it was the same day as the funeral for Princess Diana. I remember Brees playing in that game because of his last name - same name as my junior high school principal.
