Talk About Supporting The Emperor Who Has No Clothes...
....get a load of this BS. Pearl flat out lies to the NCAA to try and protect his own cheating ass and this organization says that he "embodies honor and principle". Get real ! It was reported on Goodman's blog today:

On the eve of the holiest day in the Jewish religion, the Jewish Coaches Association put out a statement about its president – Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl.

It’s just one of those, ``We stand behind our guy” type of deals.

What’s the point?

It actually makes them look worse than just keeping quiet since Pearl has already admitted to lying to the NCAA – and even worse, he wasn’t even completely honest on why he ultimately told the truth.

I commend Pearl for what he has done for the Jewish Coaches Association, but it has nothing to do with what Pearl’s been dealing with of late with the NCAA and its investigation.

But whatever. Here’s the statement.

Miami, FL- In light of the current state of events, the Jewish Coaches Association would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our association’s President, Bruce Pearl. Although mistakes were made, coach Pearl has admitted his fault and taken full responsibility for the prevailing accusations.

At the JCA, our coaches work with strong diligence and integrity while serving as role models to not only their teams but to their schools and the community. This is what Bruce Pearl is and will continue to be, a great role model and an honorable man. He is the definition of an admirable coach and a resolute observer of the Jewish faith. Bruce has an amazing reputation around the game, not just for his coaching abilities, but for the type of person he is.

As the recipient of our 2010 Red Auerbach Coach of the Year Award, Bruce did not simply earn the award because of his remarkable season; members of the JCA felt that he embodied everything that the award represents: dedication, passion, honor and principal.

Bruce has been an avid ambassador and contributor to not just our organization, but a variety of other non-profits including the Jewish Federations of North America as well as the OutLive Campaign against Cancer. He is a praiseworthy coach and friend that we will continue to support. He has had an immense impact on our association and we look forward to working with him in the future.

I agree with Goodman's "What's the point" of issuing this statement. Sure Pearl is a good coach. I'm sure he's contributed and worked for various charities. I would bet he's no more a cheater than half the coaches out there. Still, why issue commendations to a guy who just admitted to breaking the rules and had his salary slashed because of it. There are times when you should just keep your mouth shut.

If you think that half of the coaches in college basketball are cheaters that would have recruits to their home on unofficial visits, then lie to the NCAA that it occurred, then tearfully confess only after it is discovered that pictures exist of those recruits at his home, then you are very much mistaken. This is an unequivocal direct and blatant violation of the rules. Not something that happened by accident or without the knowledge of Pearl. And since he lied about that blatant violation, who knows what else he might have done and hasn't "cried and confessed" to because no pictures have been found?
