BG Selling Beer In The Dolt This Season
I was once again lurking on the BG Board and ran across this tidbit:

Sorry if this has been posted, but I just read that the Doyt will now sell beer in the stadium this year. Maybe this will bring some student in from the tailgating area.. even though tailgating will be a huge mess now with the famous spot by the hill taken away..

At $5 a beer, I seriously doubt it.

I saw they were having a "dunk tank" at the women's basketball golf outing. If you think it wasn't hard to keep from fixing THAT....03-wink Not to start a new series of flames but it was too funny seeing that in the next post after the Lady's basketball posts.

Well, yeah. Dunking is well known to be much more effective than the flea collar.

is the Doyt considered "off campus?" i thought you couldn't sell beer at a college stadium located on campus?

we should all sign up for the DD program to receive free sodas! "me and my 1500 friends here want our free soda. sure, we're all designated drivers!" hahaha!

RE: BG Selling Beer In The Dolt This Season
No, the stadium is not off campus. The University owns all that land.

And I found this from a 2007 article:

The NCAA has jurisdiction only over championship games, where it forbids the sale of alcohol, said Stacey Osburn, associate director of public and media relations for the NCAA. “During regular season games, each school is responsible for setting its own alcohol policies,” Osburn said.

And this from 2009:

Chris Radford, a spokesman for the NCAA, said schools and conferences set their own rules for alcohol sales for regular season games and Division I bowl games are controlled by the Bowl Championship Series and individual bowl committees.

The NCAA, however, does ban sales and venue advertising of all alcohol at its 88 championships and host sites are required to cover up any ads for alcoholic drinks.

Radford said the NCAA does not keep track of how many schools do allow alcohol sales during games.

Some thought might have considered waiting until after the Marshall game. If there's going to be an alchohol related incident in the stands, this would be the game and they certainly don't need the booze to get the people to come to the game for this one.

I believe most don't sell alcohol because the increase in necessary security costs would more than offset drink sales and likely keep some families away.

Probably increased liability insurance and maintenance costs.

AS I said- kids will drink and I don't see it as a huge deal but when this was posted immediately after the other story my mind immediately added the "r".

I don't know why it would make a difference if it were off-campus - it's still university property. Kent State sell beer at f-ball games. UT sells alcohol in the Grogan Room.
