Opening Game Prediction
I'm really excited for the season to start. I'll start this off and see if anyone has any opening game predictions?

I think we are going to have our way with Virginia Wise and predict us to win big. I am thinking with the experience roster that we have and the way Wise struggled last week against Webber International (L,30-10) we could have a school record for points.

My score prediction is 49-7. I think we are going to also break our school record for rushing yards in a game. A bit bold I know but that is how excited I am about this one.

I am hoping we can get a lot of momentum going into our first home game against ODU.

RE: Opening Game Prediction
I sure hope you are right. I too am very excited. Seeing that we have never had our way with anyone ill hold back on the bold scores and comments. ill gladly take our first game like that however. im thinking something along the lines of 31-17 maybe. its the first game, so many things can happen. im looking forward to that 3 game homestand with ODU, GSU and Davidson. well learn alot about our program during that 3 week span. I do expect many good things along with lots of improvement. I also hope our crowd shows up this year as well. Records should go down with ODU and Davidson here.

A win is win but boy was I wrong about the score. It was a lot closer and tighter than I thought it would be. The team still has plenty of work to do and will need to do it in a hurry with ODU coming to town.

With all the optimism going into this season, it would have been a shame to lose this game. Very impressed with Willets' fg and the last minute td drive.

How big was the Campbell crowd up there?

The CU crowd was pretty good. CU has a lot of work to do if they are to win any more games this year. CU beat a very young UVA-Wise team with a lame duck coach running the show.

RE: Opening Game Prediction
We had a good crowd at the game.

The offense played ok and had several really good drives. We should have gone for a touchdown once inside the 5 but elected to kick fg instead. The 47 yard FG was great and the last drive was great as well.

We abandoned the run on several drives which was a mistake. Our offensesive line needs some work - they had the opponent out manned but did not impress me that much. We should have run at will and did not. CJ Oates was running well and then was taken out for some reason - hope he is not hurt. Brown did a really good job early. Coach did not play Carl Smith very much at all. He caught several passes on the winning drive but I don't know what the coach has against Carl but he does not play him alot at all. I have said this is a mistake for two years. Coach has not learned a thing in the offseason about how to use the backs. Our backfield is our greatest strength. If they are used in the right way we can control the ball most of the game and keep the defense off the field. This is the key to us being successful.

Also had some big pass receptions by WR's and TE. Great hands on several plays.

Refs - lets say with the exception of the last drive when we got a couple calls they were home grown and favoring the Cavs.

Daniel Polk had a good game. He accounted for about 2/3 of our yards passing and running combined.

Defense - lets see - Lee Stanley had a good game. The defense played the last series. Other than that - Wise had their way with the defense. They ran for over 200 yards and ran at will. The last touchdown they scored they drove it right down our throats. On the scoring play a couple of our defensive linemen were not even down in a stance. Lets just say they got blown off the ball. Defensive ends need to learn how to stay at home. They got sucked in several times with big plays for UVA Wise. Defensive line got blocked by a quicker and smaller offensive line. They are not going to see a line that small this year - could get ugly upfront. No reason for this as all are experienced players. Not a lot of effort by D Line until last series. Maybe they woke up.

One long pass that setup last score for Wise the cornerback blitzed and no body picked up their receiver on the sideline. Thank God we had a safety that can tackle because we had no other choice. Don't know what we were doing. I was very disappointed in the performance of the defense. We have to get a lot better.

Coach Steele and several other coaches went out on the field and tried to use a 4th timeout. Almost cost us a penalty that would have let Wise keep the ball. He did not use two timeouts he should have at end of first half with Wise backed up deep and then almost cost us the game. At that moment the coaching staff was in the game about as much as our defense was. I will have to give them some good credit for the last drive. It was good, great clock managment and Thank God they had the guts to go for the win and not settle for a field goal. Hats off to the defense and offense on the last two possessions. If we had played like that all game would have run Wise off the field.

UVA Wise had a good crowd at the game and played at their best. We left them in the game and they took advantage of that. I think they tired on the last drive. We are very lucky to have come out of the game with a win. Feel fortunate. We actually deserved to lose the game the way we played.

Looking forward to the game with ODU. We should improve.
