So, anyone planning on reading the report?

170 pages, should be a spot of light reading.

RE: Sept 15th
Papp did make the joke if we could get a big time angel donation it could be earlier but I would put my money on 2014. The decision to move forward will be greatlly tied to the students vote on fee increase in Oct 2010.

Students need to do the right thing and bring football to KSU

The anti-football students will be less in number but more vocial then the rest so should be interesting how this plays out

RE: Sept 15th
Just got back from the press conference. I must say, I was a little surprised at how it was handled. I expected a little more hoopla surrounding the announcement. The 2014 date concerns me. I'm not saying that we should be cookie-cut from Georgia State's mold, but I want to point out something. A few days ago I went back and found the article from when Georgia State first announced their program. The date was April 2008. I mentioned this earlier, but in 2 1/2 years (Sept. 2010), they had a football team on the field. KSU is saying it will take us 4 full years to get a team on the field. The only things I can figure is that the donations could've been substantial to the program as well as having a coach in place. WE have no Provost, no AD, and no coach. I guess those, among others, are some possible reasons. Man, I really hope we can get a team on the field before 2014.

That's not entirely accurate because our study on whether we should begin football was completed in November 2006. It seems this the same point that you guys are at right now. So from 11/2006 to 9/2010 is about 4 years.

Then we hired Dan Reeves to raise money and support - that's probably what Dooley will be doing for the next year or so.

Then in April 2008 we officially announced that we will be having football.

Here is a complete timeline of GA State's process:

Oh yeah I also wanted to say Congrats guys!

It is a roller coaster of a ride process, but I have never felt the way I have felt about a sporting the event the night of our first game. It was an amazing experience and 2014 will be here sooner than you think.

My Dad called to make sure I knew about KSU getting football so it must have made the radio or news at noon somewhere. That's a positive. I think the biggest thing is to get bigger news outlets caring like Georgia State has had luck with over the past year. They've probably peaked for the mean time. With that said, the cover and feature in ESPN Mag is a nice place to peak.

Thanks this really helps explain some stuff, and gives some clarity to the situation. I appreciate your insight. For everyone else, I apologize for the misinformation.

@Escalade2121

I think a big reason is because student fees can not be raised until 2013 and that was determined by State of Georgia. That is why Papp said unless we get a Angel Investor 2014 is a good date. He said if someone wants to donate $225M like T Boone Pikens of OSU we can do it faster.

Everything I have heard from top admin at KSU is that Football is a go and unless the students dont want it. It will happen

Papp thinks things out 2 steps ahead and he would not go public the way he did with this if KSU was not going to be in the football business and YES its a business.

RE: Sept 15th
KSUowl0003,

Yea that makes sense. I had forgotten about the hold on student fees. I think so too, there were a lot of people there today, no idea how many, but virtually half the lower bowl of the convocation center was full. I hope the students who want it have a loud voice. I don't even go there anymore, and I still get sick of the students who complain about student fees and tuition hikes. My message to them, go somewhere else and see if it's any better, because I guarantee you it won't be.

Didn't they say october or november for the survey?

I feel quite certain that the results of this survey will probably closely match the survey that was taken two or three years ago. I.e overwhelmingly for football, aside from a few vindictive hockey fans and probably some art majors.

RE: Sept 15th
Good luck on getting the students to want it. We were on track to bring it back at ETSU, and even had an unofficial survey and students said they would pay more in tuition to have football. Then when the official survey was done, all the anti-sports people were out in full force, teachers tried to tell students that funds would be taken away from academics(which was a lie), and other sports coaches told their players to vote against football because the sports budgets would be cut. The vote failed 40% to 60% and here we sit today as an embarrassment Good luck on your endeavor.

RE: Sept 15th
The last time the students were surveyed, about 75% said yes. Of course, that was an informal survey, and it did have its problems with the way it was conducted, but it received something in the order of 5000 votes, so I think there is plenty of interest. I will not be happy if the arts students and other plonkers derail this effort.

Cool RE: Sept 15th
I'm going to buy a lottery ticket tonight. Maybe I can be an Angel Donor and get the program going by 2013.

Wonder when they will start selling tickets?

I agree I think the students are ready for football my comment was more to get the pro-football students to make their voice heard. I knew the old survey was heavily in favor or football and that was actually the second student survey they did that was passed.

Five schools KSU should model their program after, per Bleacher Report.

RE: Sept 15th
Just on the student survey thing, I am kind of perplexed as to why they are bothering - according to an article I just read in the MDJ:

Quote:The positive feedback and momentum came from a number of surveys that gave overwhelming support to adding the new sport. Nearly three-quarters of the 6,000 students polled were in favor, as was 82.5 percent of more than 500 alumni and 83.3 percent of 60 members of the university's Chairman's Club.

http://www.mdjonline.com/view/full_story..._news_left

Seems like the interest is pretty much settled.
