Info for Football Traffic
From the Chronicle: DeKALB – Two of the four ramps at the Interstate 88 and Peace Road interchange will be closed this fall to reconstruct the pavement.
The westbound off-ramp to Peace Road and eastbound on-ramp from Peace Road will be closed from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1, according to information city officials have received from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

Why shouldn't anyone use the Peace Road exit? Little known fact for people who have to make daily trips: if you use the Peace Road exit and come across on Fairview to Annie Glidden and vice versa, it costs you 15 cents less every time. Once a week, no big deal. If you leave and come back that way, it's $1.50 every week, $6 a month and $72 for the year.

yeah but how many people come to the huskie game every day? lol
even that select population that comes here for work is so small that it shouldn't make a difference really

For football most won't but there will be a few alums who will in order to avoid the higher toll or to go up to 23 before the game because it is quiker and you miss all the traffic and trains. As for me, this REALLY sucks. I use the Peace westbound exit 5-6 times a week and occasionally use the eastbound entrance ramp. It will be nice when they are finished I am sure but the timing of this couldn't be worse. They REALLY should have done this when school is not in session. It will bring more cars to AG and 38 and make it less safe for pedestrians on that corner and all along 38(which there are many more now that school is back in session).

Actually, I am pretty sure that he was talking about the commute the other way-toward Chicago- moreso than the commute to work here(although, it would affect commuter students and as we all know, there are hordes of them). As I said in my other post, it does affect me monetarily since I do commute to Napervill 5-6 times a week(and as uiniu57 said, many of us take Fairview to avoid the extra $.15. Now, I don't think it will bankrupt me to use AG for a month and a half(or however long it actually is) but I could use that extra money back in my pocket since money is tight right now.

We always use Peace Road to get into and out of DeKalb. It allows us to drive through town and see if there are any changes.

RE: Info for Football Traffic
A co-worker of mine lives in Cortland (office in Naperville) and uses these ramps every day. I just told him about the ramp closures and he obviously wasn't terribly pleased. He did offer an interesting alternative. One could take the I88 West ramp at Peace, exit at the DeKalb oasis and reenter I88 east from the Oasis. He said he did this in college once and one, you were able to do it and two, you avoid paying any tolls. My co-worker lives right off Somonauk road so this method would save him time in lieu of heading over to Annie Glidden.

Same as DF, plus usually better traffic on gamdays. Annie Glidden can get backed up sometimes.

This doesn't really work. It's pretty hard to switch directions there. Unless you feel like hopping a curb or breaking through a gate.

This is likely true. The one time my co-worker said he did this successfully was about 12 years ago and who knows maybe he hopped a curb or two back then.

RE: Info for Football Traffic
For me, it's not so much the extra toll (though I do hate paying anything to those crooks). We usually don't head straight for NIU as soon as we get to DeKalb. We get there early do do shopping and eat on Route 23 or in Sycamore first. But, this will just be a minor inconvenience. It WILL be bad for those who arrive just before the game and leave right after it's over. I'm glad they're waiting to start this until after the first home game.

RE: Info for Football Traffic
The work could NOT have been scheduled during nonpeak summertime travel periods into DeKalb?
Yeash. The world is all about me and myneeds, mywants and myspace 24/7
I occasionally prefer the circular route using the Peace rd exit route to Hillcrest via 23 near Target then to Lucinda across Glidden to West Campus & stadium. The rt38/glidden intersection can be a pain worth avoiding sometimes. At least I need not pass by Illini Tire !!!!
