I wish, but sadly I think these out-of-conference games are used to subsidize the Athletic Department (Bowl games, other teams, etc.). Remember the reports from USA Today last year that NIU men's basketball lost over $1 million and that NIU athletics was losing over $2 million as a program?

Your men's basketball team has to make money for your athletic program to be successful. While football is the big show, men's basketball requires less expenses and has enough popularity to still make plenty of money. With NIU men's basketball losing money it puts more pressure on NIU football to play these extra away games to help the entire program.

Does anyone know too if NIU has paid off its news facilities (Yordon, Track/Soccer, Indoor batting cages and driving range, the remolding of the wrestling and gymnastic practice areas)?
