Very well done. One thing he disagrees with is the assumption that every play must be able to shoot. I posted that as a statement by Gonzaga coach Mark Few. It doesn't mean you ignore great inside post players who can score around the basket. I think Coach Few was referring to players primarily playing facing the basket.

On the other hand. I feel you can play a non shooter at the high school level who is a demon on defense, but in college, you need to recruit well rounded players. Obviously some can do some things better than others, but you can't be playing four against five, which you are when you have a kid who just can't put the ball in the basket.

I also have a pet peeve about college players who can't shoot free throws at a decent percentage. When you have a starting post player shooting 28% for the season, something is just wrong with your recruiting evaulation process. Everyone can't shoot 70-90%, but any decent post player should be able to shoot 65% or better. If he can't then you don't need to be throwing the ball inside, but need to be playing a perimeter oriented offense. Just MO!01-lauramac2

I certainly agree with that in principle for perimeter players. You might make an exception for a 3 if he was a good scorer as a slasher, but if they play outside they need to be able to shoot outside. At our level, however, the sad fact is that you are hard pressed to turn down a player whose game is lacking in one point if it is particularly outstanding in another.
