I'd buy a German brand if I were you, safety and quality are over the top.

Yes, I remember that. You bought a BMW when your boss tripled your salary and you were retiring fat and rich in a year. Only 4 more months. :johnkerry:

Oh man, take a chill pill! You have no tact!

I'm not a car guy at all but we just bought a Toyota Matrix and I looooooovvvee it-the first car I can ever say that about. runs great, thus far good service although its been minimal. I bought Fords for about three cars in a row and had terrible rust problems, bought a couple Dodge vans and had radiators blow on both. Had good luck with Hondas but didn't like the design of the CRV-Love the Toyota and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Toyota tells me they've engineered all the frames to be sealed box frames. No V frames or box frames with holes where water can pool up. They build a great engine, and nice interior, but their older models have always had issues with bumper rust and running board rust.

Their frames were engineered badly, and it's been corrected in the newer models. I'd buy another one, but they need to show some good faith that they want me as a customer, rather than trying to cover their azz on a problem that they know exists.

^exactly. Don't let them flake out on this one. They need to make it right. We expect things to rust in Michigan, but not the frame.

Admittedly it is 14 years old. But still.

NO, I decided to go into education, hardest decision I ever made, but after being a rousing success in the private sector, I made the call and went to serve the greater good of the people, I'm sure I'll have no regrets because I was such a great leader and will have that to fall back on when I have doubts....

Oh wait, that's you.

All car brands have problems, I wouldn't let it scare you off from buying a Ty in the future. In fact I'd fix the car you have now and keep driving it if all the major components are in good running condition.

The accelerator thing was mainly media hysteria, it was a very rare problem. Most cases are (not surprisingly) people pushing the wrong pedal, some were valid cases of pedals sticking to the floor or floor mats.

That said the domestic brands (Detroit 3) do build much better cars than they used to. But they built some real junk in the 80's and early 90's without apology and continue to suffer a reputation of shoddy quality that will take years to shed.

Also, when you do decide to buy a car (new or used) please buy a car assembled in the USA regardless of whether the brand is domestic or non-domestic, they're all building here to some extent.

I used to feel that way until they outsourced so many workers. Including my profession.

You don't need a car. Just walk, run, bike, or use public transportation. Way to contribute to global warming by using your very own car!

I ride the rail to work every day. Cheaper and just as fast.
