Has anyone else noticed that the players that
leave us normally end up at D2 schools. Has anyone left us and transferred to a D1 school, even a low major? I can't remember one.
It tells me that our evaluation in the past hasn't been very good. Or it might be that our evaluation is allright, but we haven't been able to close the deal on most of the players we really want.03-banghead

I suspect kids just don't want to spend that extra year in school.

That would be my interpretation, as well. I don't think leaving was their "choice". They are not emotionally ready to sit out a whole year. When kids choose to leave they are making the decision with the advance knowledge that they will be sitting out the year (if they go DI).

The one thing I didn't factor into my statement was that some will only have one season left to play, and most D1 schools wouldn't want a kid, assuming he had a redshirt year, who only had a year left to play unless he was a superstar, which none of our kids had been or they probably wouldn't have left.04-cheers

Paris McCurdy and Curtis Kidd left us for Ball St. way back in the day.

I was really referring to the current era, especially the past seven seasons. But MCurdy and Kidd didn't leave because of their lack of basketball skills. I think their check writing skills had something to do with that if my memory is correct.04-cheers

RE: Has anyone else noticed that the players that
Recruiting for mid-major programs is different from recruiting for an upper tier program. A mid-major coach does not want to spend two years of scholarship on a mid-major player just to get one year from him. Coach will not spend three years scholarship on a mid-major player for two years either. If a player is really good enough to make a big impact on your program two years down the road, then he is probably good enough to move on to an upper tier program. Patrick Sparks ring a bell? Mid-major coaches have to spend their money wisely and that is why jucos are so attractive to mid-majors. They have two years experience and they can play today, not next year. If a mid-major coach is going to spend three years of scholarship money, he is better off giving it to a freshman that might turn into a diamond down the road.

Plus their track record is against a higher level of competition - in some cases some pretty good competition.
