MAC 2011 basketball recruiting
How's your team doing?

Akron will have two transfers becoming eligible in 2011, along with a greyshirt and one player straight out of high school. We have one scholarship spot still open, and it will almost assuredly be going to a PG.

Transfers:
SG Chauncey Gilliam - transferring from UMBC. Was the leading scorer for the Retreivers at 13.3 ppg.

SG/SF Brian Walsh - transferring from Xavier. Spent two seasons seeing limited time behind NBA draftee Jordan Crawford.

Greyshirt:
SF Nick Harney - from Cleveland Benedictine HS. Don't know much else about him.

Incoming freshmen:
SG Blake Justice - from Peebles, OH. Made all-time scoring leader at his HS as a Junior. One of the best shooters in Ohio.

Forget about the 2011 recruiting season, KSU already has a commitment for the 2012 season.

Pretty sure Akron has one too, but 2011 is more imminent.

With both Jason Love and Jordan Crawford departing Xavier, wonder why Walsh didn't think he'd get playing time over the next two years?

I was gonna post about this. Stevie is a big-time player. With Taylor and Cooper, Ohio will have the best point guard duo in the conference. This was a huge get for Ohio.

RE: MAC 2011 basketball recruiting
EMU has two verbals: Paul Tenharmsel, a 6'4 swingman from Caledonia, MI and Darren Washington, 6'9 from Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard (former transfer from Detroit Southeastern).

Tensharsel was largely unknown until a strong AAU summer. Reports are that he is very athletic.

Washington is a good get, very long and athletic, probably one of the better early recruits that Ramsey has gotten. Was getting some interest from Big Ten Schools - visits to Indiana and Penn State. Word is that he has been playing in open gyms with team and has done well.

Because he's a tremendous stiff who would be passed immediately by young guys at X.

So true. MAC schools should follow the Temple plan and recruit players that are being chased down by D-II schools.

Sorry to say again, we have no one. As usual, we will try to put together a team of walk ons. I see us being picked to come in 5th in the East again. Hopefully, we can beg a player to visit us and possibly say yes for 2011. It is hard to get up in the morning. So depressed.

Geno will post some flyers around campus, so we should be able to field a team. If push comes to shove, I think I still have a year or two of eligibility. How about you GFlash?

RE: MAC 2011 basketball recruiting
Akron supposedly has picked up another verbal. The last spot in the 2011 class. A forward that lives in the Cleveland area. No name yet, but the list of uncommitted forwards in NE ohio is pretty small so we should have it narrowed down soon. Very shocked we don't have a PG in this class.

And I don't see Walsh becoming a major contributor right away at Akron. He could be a valuable 6th man and provide a scoring threat off the bench.

in terms of guards, X still has holloway, jackson, lyons, & redford getting minutes ahead of him next year and their recruiting has been ridiculously good behind him so walsh just may have been the odd man out (plus i don't think he was too happy with the coaching change) . . . could end up a good get - he had some major offers coming out of high school . . .

and crawford only played one year . . .

That's because you have a Temple education. Now that you know, please leave.

Maybe the two of you and a few others you round up at The Hub
during orientation or Rays on the next few Thursday nights can hit the Rec Center and see us through this dark night.

I believe that 5 to play 4 rules me out. It not, suit me up in XL.

You play this tune all the time, but it still amuses me.
