So there are a fair number of CMU extended campus undergrad and grad students (and alumni) in metro Detroit, which would partially explain higher sales of CMU gear in the area. Certainly their recent football success is playing a part as well, but it's not the only reason.

I don't want WMU to get into the diploma mill business.

CMU has a satellite location in metro DC aimed at those in the military (and federal gov't) looking for master's degrees.

They're trying to become the University of Phoenix North. A school on every street corner.

Several weeks ago I got stuck in traffic on northbound I-75 on the northside of Atlanta. Using my GPS I was in the process of navigating around the mess when I saw a large CMU sign indicating college classes were available on that site. CMU in fricking Atlanta, GA? Yep.

While we're at it, I'm really disappointed at the lack of visibility Western has here. I went into a Dunham's sporting goods store last week and it was stocked with Central merchandise, and had virtually nothing for Western. The clerk said Central's merchandise seems to sell better. Part of that comes from them winning, and us losing. The local Birmingham sporting goods store that specializes in team gear also has Central's stuff place more prominently than ours.

But there's more. When I watch Comcast cable here in Birmingham, one of the two cable stations I receive is WCMU. I realize we don't have a TV channel, but I am very disappointed by our lack of presence. Why should CMU have any more cred around here than Western?

I just got back from Marshall's and they were flooded with cmu hats. I saw a row of them and thought "Too bad they don't have any WMU." Then I saw another whole rack of them, and realized they must not be selling at their original sales destination.

They might be selling, but it doesn't mean anybody's buying.

I think all Kalamazoo/Portage mini golfs should have half-brown/half-gold balls, in addition to the standard orange, green, blue, etc.

The Detroit newspapers are filling column space with Parsons articles for free or at least at a heavy discount. Parsons is getting good writing experience/exposure while CMU is getting some coverage.

The guy is smart. Now, if we have a WMU writer who can spend the time and effort shuttling around and getting the content I am sure they would do the same for us. Until then.....

I've met the Freep guy a few times and if it's the same guy I believe he's a WMU grad as well. They can't be opinion articles as much as content about the season, players, and occasional interviews. I could get you credentialed as well, which would get you a parking pass next to the stadiums and free entry, as well as a membership on Rivals.com. After the first month I'd pay you $10 an article plus a $10 bonus if I don't have to do a ton of rewrites ($50 a month).
