RE: the irony of the timing of the memphis post two days ago
1. He isn't a Memphis player. If your saying Memphis recruits thug players, then so does Tubby Smith and Paul Hewitt at Georgia Tech. Not to mention Mike Davis who had DeMarcus Cousins committed to UAB at one point. Unfortunately, Davis can't even keep homies in town to play for him these days. 03-lmfao

2. He may not have committed the crime. If you've read anything about the case you'd know that. Not saying he did or didn't, but that's why there will be a trial. If he's found guilty he won't be playing ball for Memphis or anywhere else.

3. You and a few other UAB fans always have an axe to grind, but I guess when you can't ever beat us on the court this kind of stuff is all you have left.

Definitely doesn't sound like a case where we should rush to judgment.

Maybe I read it wrong, but was that UAB article really about events that happened 10 years ago?

2000-2001
IIRC, not enough evidence to go to trial.

Robert Dozier had charges dropped against him as well....you don't see that stopping people on here.

Robert Dozier had charges dropped against him as well....you don't see that stopping people on here.

He also publicly apologized for it.

Quote:"I just want to get up here and apologize for any harm or misconceptions about our university or our school. I want to apologize to my parents, my teammates, and coaching staff for what's happened. I'll make sure whatever ends up happening at the end of this, it won't happen again."

Call me old fashioned, but I don't usually go around apologizing for not beating up women.

Not to mention, his ex probably has a cushy job at FedEx now.

You're close, but not quite. Tulane basketball shut itself down, even though there was no NCAA pressure to do so (your words makes it seem like this action was imposed from the outside). Tulane President Eamon Kelly made that call on his own. And if there was any "cheating" involved, it was cheating Against Tulane by one of its own players. He was arrested and charged with point-shaving, but the charges were eventually thrown out by the trial-judge.

A brief run-down can be found here:
http://espn.go.com/classic/s/basketball_...ecent.html

President Kelly made the decision to suspend basketball in large part over embarrassment/outrage that the accused player was revealed to be illiterate. Just in the years that I paid close attention to such things (the 80s and 90s), there were occasional reports about ex-college athletes who had played football or MBB for four years and got a "degree" yet could not even read a newspaper. Suffice to say, none of those other institutions never felt compelled to take any self-policing action comparable to what President Kelly took at Tulane, and the NCAA never took any such action either.
