Will Houston Be Opener At UNTs New Stadium ?
Houston is scheduled for a September 10, 2011 game at UNTs new stadium. Unless a home game is scheduled for September 3rd this will be the new stadiums opening game. Either way, should be a full house welcoming the Cougars to Denton and our long awaited new home !

As long as it's not our first game of the season, I'm fine with it. I'm curious as to why we'd schedule ourselves for your season/stadium opener.

No idea, Mack hasn't scheduled very well as of lately. Home & home's and two for two's against LA Tech, UTSA, UNT (rumored), etc. We shouldn't be giving programs like that even deals.

Edit: I'll give him credit for getting UCLA, Mississippi State, and Tech (if that was his doing, and not Maggard's) to come to Robertson, though. With the 15 game winning streak, I'd bet it's getting even tougher to get decent competition to come to Houston.

I'm hoping we've got some kind of deal in the making where we go to LSU, Arkansas, or maybe OU, then they return a game at Reliant. These "neutral site, event" type games are the new fad (i.e. TCU v. Oregon State at Jerryworld, VA. Tech v. Boise at FedEx Field), and we need to find a way to get into it. It'd be great exposure for the program.

Yeah you had a hard time getting ECU there last fall! [Image: rimshot.gif]

Seriously though you are probably right. I think UH and TT should get a long term series alternating home teams. Seems like a very exciting game that would get great TV ratings.

The only way UNT or Tech will play there is with home-home deals.

I don't want to get into a whole *thing* here, but give me a break. UNT and UTSA (and to a lesser extent, LA Tech) will play anywhere, regardless of deal. If any bring >2k fans to Houston, I'd be surprised.

No way either would play or need to play Houston for anything other than a home-home.

UNT had 6 home games in '09 with Army & Ohio as OCs. Have 6 home games this year with Rice & Kansas State as OCs. Future 2-2 with SMU, 2 remaining of a 2-2 with Army, Ball State & Ohio coming in '13,etc.
So, again, no need for anything other than a home-home with the Cougars. Look forward to seeing ya September 10th of '11. Have a nice weekend.

Canewton, to answer your question, that would be our 2nd game of 2011. We open at home against UCLA on the 3rd.

I haven't heard it confirmed by anyone on the UH side, though. Not even as much as a mention on any of our boards.

F that. I don't want to open @ UCLA and then open a new stadium for UNT the year after Case leaves.

Even more reason to not be scheduling the likes of UTSA and UNT. I just don't want to be stuck booking a flight to Memphis instead of Phoenix or New Orleans the year we go 13-0, because our OOC schedule is: vs. UTSA, @ UNT, vs. Sam Houston State, vs. La Tech.

(in before: your joke about us ever going 13-0 - I'm sure you've got one 04-cheers)

If you schedule teams like La Tech and UNT you will have a chance to go 13 - 0, and go to a major bowl. If you schedule the LSU's of the world you will not go 13 - 0, and will have no chance of a BCS bowl.

If we went 13-0 with an OOC schedule like the one in my previous post, the BCS would laugh in our face.

You have the possibility of going to a major bowl and getting your a/ss whipped. See Hawaii.

Firstly, a BCS bowl berth is the next step in the process. And I think if you were to check the schedules of Boise State and Utah, you will find that they were not overloaded with top heavy competition. Win, and win consistently, and you get recognized. Lose and you get stigmatized.

You can ask the Rice fans, La. Tech has a large alumni base in Houston and if there are less than 2K fans for this game I will be very disappointed.

Umm, those have been around forever, particularly for us since we played twice in Tokyo and twice at the Alamodome when it first opened. Not to mention in more recent times against Miami at Reliant in 2003 and Oregon during the Katrina fiasco.
