Phil Steele's Big East predictions

The Big East also figures to be very competitive this year and so far your votes reflect that. Right now you favor Pittsburgh to finish the conference season unscathed with West Virginia coming in at #2 with a 6-1 mark. Cincinnati, USF and Connecticut all finished at 4-3 with the Bearcats coming close to 5-2 (49% at Connecticut).

Let's see if this prediction is any good. Let's revisit it at season's end... 04-cheers

Very well said, Fly 04-bow I like reading Steele and his unique approach, but it's clear he doesn't do his homework 100%.

Personally, I like seeing the pundits sleep on us. It just makes them look all the more stupid.

Nobody does their homeword 100%, except on those teams and conferences they prefer. And since nobody prefers The BEast, we continually get dismissed by people who know absolutely nothing about us, but merely mouth the same tired platitudes that everyone else uses about things they haven't a clue about...

Steele and others really don't know that much.

He basically had two lucky years in the early 2000s where he went uber accurate. And he wasn't terrible until about 2006 or 2007. Basically his predictions are like a kiss of death on the overly positive ones and an annointing on the overly negative ones. Rutgers did ok last year but was not one of the top teams in the conference clearly by record or by in-game performance. This year I expect more from what is still a very young team that has had a year's worth of game experience, spring practice, strength & conditioning, etc. How much more could range from anywhere to winning the conference to having the same exact record but with no WTF losses and extremely close games in any loss. Anything less and Schiano needs to be put on a very hot seat.

The idea that Pitt has a 68% chance to win in Nippert is adorable.

RE: Phil Steele's Big East predictions
I believe these results are from fan voting, not Phil Steele predicitions. For one, I remember he had Louisville last in the conference, Syracuse was 7th.

In fact, he mentions it's a poll in the blog.

I'm amazed that right now the voting has West Virginia overwhelmingly the favorite to beat USF, and it is considered our least likely win. I think that it's much more likely than @Cincinnati or home against Pitt.

Until we see how the teams are performing a couple weeks into the season I'll call it a pick 'em.

I like Phil Steele for all the info. but lets be realistic, no one should think they or any publications will be right o their prediction. If that was the case why would we even have a football season?

He had UC at 3-4 last year if I recall correctly. Oops.
