I was recently looking at a list of college football rivalry games and trophies and a thought occurred to me. If college football can have trophies to celebrate its rivalry games, why can't Big East hoops craft some trophies to celebrate its biggest hoops games? Not only would teams take home bragging rights over their rivals, but they would also take home a piece of hardware as well.

I'll admit that one potential problem with rivalry games in college hoops is that some rivalry games are played twice in one season (i.e. WVU-Pitt, Cuse-Gtown, etc). If teams split the series, who would get to keep the trophy? That is a valid question and one which could be addressed by scheduling rivalry games at the very beginning and the very end of the regular conference season. The winner of the first game would get to keep the trophy throughout the entire season. The winner of the 2nd game (if played) would get to keep the trophy during the off season until the next rivalry game.

What's with you and trophies, dude? The only people who need to celebrate every farking thing with a trophy are those who don't win much. Without all the meaningless trophies, their trophy case would be empty...

Trophies are cool. UofL and Memphis should have a trophy made out of open pocket knives and quarters.
