Couldn't help but remember this after we won last night. Getting the Silver Glove back (finally) after 13 years of being owned feels good, eh uhcoog 27?

You may have been a bit premature with the "just leveled the playing field", given that it's now 4 years later. But congrats to UH; it makes college baseball around here much more exciting when UH, Rice and UT are all very good.

I do feel bad for the Glove, though. I'm sure it's going to be homesick.

Congrats to UH for winning the Silver Glove for this first time this millenium. I'm sad for sure, but it was bound to happen some time.

One of the best things about UH becoming a much more competitive program is maybe it will help raise the profile of college baseball in Houston. It's just pathetic that the Comical didn't even mention the game in Tuesday's paper, even though two nationally ranked teams in Houston were competing.

I know I'm overly optimistic about this. Until Rice and UH are drawing 10,000 fans for the game, the Comical won't notice, if then. 03-hissyfit05-deadhorse

1. NO ASTERISKS
The Glove is UH's fair & square this year regardless of series format or field surface or any other "excuses".
Please join me in forgiving RiceLad for that comment, but he was in diapers the last time UH won the series.

2. Honestly I think we dropped to 3 games when UH became a bit of a SoS/RPI drain. Now that y'all are "back" maybe we can work it back up to a 5 game series.
Although that may be overkill if we start meeting every year in post season(!)

Ricelad, I don't see any asterisks on the Silver Glove when Rice won 3 of 5 nonsequential midweek games.

I believe the last year we met them in post season (not conference tourneys) was the Supers in 2003. They took the first game but we got the next two and the CWS crown a few weeks later.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen the UH fan yet who told us 3 years ago that Aaron Garza was better than Jordan Stephens (Hymie was that you too?)

You mean like Rice football leveled the playing field with UH back in 2008 or 2010?

Not exactly the most flattering example of Rice competing, but I'm pretty sure a UH fan would laugh at that type of counter-claim back then. And then prove it right the next year.

As much as I have enjoyed owning the Silver Glove since the Clinton Administration, I have to tip the cap to a program that is currently 15-2 vs top 100 RPI teams this year. That's no fluke. Selfishly, other than the third game scheduled for Constellation Field later this season, I hope they run the table for the regular season (thereby helping us). I just threw up a bit saying that, though...old habits and all that.

I tip my cap to the Coogs, as well, but having UH have an exceptional second half of the season does not help us; especially given 3 other nearby teams are also vying for national seeds and regional host spots (ULL, LSU, UT). Unless we tank, our RPI and SoS will remain high regardless to what UH does. We've played the tougher schedule, and that will not change in the second half.

How much do you expect the upcoming C-USA conference games to drag our RPI down? Or will they be offset by gains (win or lose?) due to the remaining midweek games with UT/A&M/UH?

Tnis is not last year's CUSA. I very much doubt we'll have much of a drag down in RPI due to CUSA opponents. So long as we keep winning at the current rate (or better) we should end the season in the Top 10 in RPI. First off, we don't play the two sub-200 RPI schools (Charlotte, Marshall). Second, I suspect FIU, FAU, ECU and USM will continue to improve their RPI as the season progresses.

UH ROWP: 0.547, current SOS (RPI-based): 8
Rice ROWP: 0.534, current SOS: 7

Both teams will likely drop in SOS as conference play continues, but it looks like Rice may drop a bit more. Boyd is currently estimating UH needs to go ~23-9 the rest of the way to stay top 8, while Rice needs ~20-7.

It is way, way too early to give any credence to Boyd's needs analysis. We're only at the half way point and several teams are just now starting conference play (e.g., UH), which requires going on the road. Also, some teams off to very slow starts (and thus low current RPIs) are begun to right the ship (e.g., USM, ECU). RPIs of our opponents can change signficantly over the next 2 months./

BTW, no question we will drop in SoS-- likely into the high 20s/low 30s by the time the regular season ends, but so long as we keep winning it will not have that significant effect on our RPI.

"You can compete and go to Omaha. We’ve shown we can do that in the past. The accomplishments of this program are going to be our floor. They’re not going to be our ceiling. The ceiling is very high at this place."

Awww, that thread title is so cute. He thinks they've leveled the playing field with a team coached by the OG. Adorable.

That aside, he sounds like a good hire. I look forward to UH offering us more competitive baseball games in the future.

Well, just over a decade and times have sure changed...hope Chito can get us back to contention soon...as for UH...well...
