Some common sense.
Ok. Let's calm down for a minute. Take a breather. In. Out. Ok, good.

Now, we've all seen the stories saying that Memphis-UCF are going to the Big East. And we've seen the pushback from Big East officials saytings its all bunk.
...Of course, any conference official who knows his stuff would have to deny everything, regardless of what may or may not be happening. But I digress.

Perhaps the rumors are true. Or maybe the Big East isn't going to do anything.

The only thing that's definite is that IF the Big East decides to add anyone, it would have to be done by June 30.
There's a little less than two weeks until that date. The term "fluid" has been used to describe this situation. A lot can happen in that span of time.

So, let's all relax. Wait and see. Whatever happens, happens. No matter what any of us say.

RE: Some common sense.
The rumors about UCF and Memphis all seem to be coming from well, Orlando and Memphis. I have not seen one national report on this unlike what was occurring nationally with the Big 10 and Nebraska, the Pac 10 with Colorado and Utah, and the MWC with Boise. In 2008, it was rumored that Memphis would get an invite by Memphis fans and some Memphis media. Last year the same thing occurred and Memphis was suppose to get an invite within 6 months after the start of the football season and see what happened, and now these rumors. This time next year, the same rumors will be floating around!

While I agree that these appear to just be rumors, unfortunately the more likely that it isn't national news is that no one outside of big east or Orlando/Memphis care about. That is very unlike the situation last week when the #1 team in all of football (texas) was picking up half a conference and moving. Obviously that creates much more noise nationwide.

Having said that, frank the tank (a big 10 blogger) has mentioned a few times yesterday about UCF/Memphis to the big east, and is likely one of the original sources of the rumor.

This.

As of now, there's no reason to believe this was anything more than an internet rumor that took on a life of its own. As much as I wish it were true, there's just no real evidence of it.

That COULD change.. but probably not.

RE: Some common sense.
The only reason the Big East would have to do anything by June 30th regarding any CUSA school is if they wanted a school in their league within two years of 6/30/10. As the BE membership is currently static, and the league seems to be content with this, unless there are changes in the membership in the very near future then June 30th doesn't mean much.

Even if someone took a BE school, the BE can then add someone from CUSA and have 3 months to spare before the BE team is gone.

Yes, what's bothered me is the SOURCE of these rumors. I can't track down the origins. Iliana Limon said she was hearing some stuff a bit before we started talking about it here and elsewhere online, so it HAD to of started somewhere in the "real world".

The thing is, there is no benefit to an announcement July 1, 2010 rather than an announcement on May 1, 2011. There are however negatives attached. Your invitees get to play another year in their league with a "kick me hard" sign on their crotch and the dynamic can change that makes you lose your taste for the decision. Your invitees may find it so distasteful they pay the added penalties for departure early leaving them cash strapped on entry when you prefer for them to be as robust as possible.

If it doesn't happen by the end of the month, it gets shelved and revisited.

It isn't going to be shelved and revisited because as the Big East has said many times, they are not planning on making membership changes unless the right team or teams come available. None of the "usual suspects" on here is anyone that the BE is going to be clamoring to get so there isn't anything to shelve or revisit, they will just get any of those teams if they need someone whenever their membership changes. It isn't going to be any of these teams prior to 2012 because they would drop the Big East BCS score if added prior to that.
