What about Charlotte?
A lot of chatter after UCF and Memphis (and I would have them in that order myself, although I think they should both have invites by the end of June) is about Temple and East Carolina University.
Realistically a network and championship football game probably wont take place until 2013 at the earliest and if that is the case why jump at ECU when you can scoop up Charlotte?

Because Charlotte would have no experience or history where as ECU has a history of success, money, and known fans.

RE: What about Charlotte?
Not only what was said above, but Charlotte has lost any relevancy thet had the last few years of Conference-USA. I can think of no reason why Charlotte would be ahead of any existing team, especially not ahead of ECU, UM, UCF, or even Temple, Buffalo, or any 1AA school like UMass, or the BE1AA schools. It's not like it a team like Xavier, who is relvant in other sports, was starting up a team. Charlotte has just fallen off the face of the Earth. I can't beleive I even wasted time answering.

RE: What about Charlotte?
With all of these teams, in particular the FCS teams, what you have to keep in mind is there's no hurry to grab any of them. No other BCS conference is going to swoop in and take them before the Big East has a chance. So they can afford to sit, wait and see how things develop at Charlotte, rather than make an early commitment and have to cross their fingers that it will work out.

Didn't know Charlotte had a football team! Are they D2 or D3? Where do they play their games? What is Charlotte's attendance? I drive through there all the time and never even heard of anything out of the 49ers besides basketball.

RE: What about Charlotte?
If the BE took ECU, they would do with the assurance that every time a BE team showed up for a football game in Greenville, there's be at least 40,000 fans in the stands (and usually 50,000). Not to mention every time ECU traveled for an away-BE football game, they'd show up with 10-15,000 fans to the opposing stadium.
None of that is true with Charlotte.

Not that Charlotte is a good idea or anything, but they actual won the Director's Cup in the A10 (and have for five straight years). We came in 2nd.

Welcome to the board. Kind of you to mention us. I make it a policy not to whore my school on here so I won't do that now either. You of course will notice that everyone who has had something negative to say so far are former conference mates of ours and no doubt don't want to see us on the basketball court again because we made a habit of beating them regularly.
We start in 2013 and can move to FBS as early as 2015. We'll hire a coach this winter and start construction of a 15,000 on campus stadium and football center this spring. The picture in my signature is a link that will show you the stadium renderings up to 40,000 seats. Thanks again for the mention.

Charlotte is 20 years too late, which is a damn shame, but nothing can be done. That is unless someone hands them $100 million cash to fast track their football program.

Nah, we won't need that much. Probably an additional $45 million would do it.

Granted, I did not take too kindly to that ass whoopin' you all gave us on our home court this year.
But you guys just simply would not be a team worth looking into today as a football add. Now, if for some reason, they added more non-football teams, then you would be much further up that list, and a good travel partner for ECU, with the possibility of bringing in football down the line, but no way would a school who hasn't yet played a down of football be in the mix of football adds.

Fwiw, I really like Charlotte. I wish you guys actually would have started football 20 years ago. The school is a perfect fit. It's too bad the football program is just in its infancy.

Agreed. Charlotte would be a perfect fit in many ways.
If they can get their program up and running, and get some fan support, then maybe they'll be ready for the next round of realignment. I suspect they won't have any trouble finding a home for their football program once its up and running.

Well if the goal is to go 12 or more in football and split but to not do it overnight then schools like Charlotte, Georgia St. and ODU can be added to the basketball side and moved over to football a few years later; and be replaced by dedicated basketball onlies like Xavier and Dayton when we do.

Hindsight's a bastard. We should have started in 1995 and at least we'd still be in CUSA but oh well. All we can do is play high speed catchup and hope for the best.

I'm slightly biased but I'd vote for that plan :)

Too bad we don't get votes on it.
