BYU to replace Nebraska
Just wondering what people in Big 12 country think about inviting BYU to take Nebraska's place (let's assume the Big 12 is stable and the south division is not leaving)?

My line of thinking is that the Big 10 wanted Notre Dame for its national appeal, but went with the next best team with a national appeal--Nebraska.

BYU has a pretty strong national following, not on the same level as Nebraska, but as for available teams BYU has the strongest national appeal.

Check the Big East forum...this idea was considered over there. I think both BYU and Boise St. would be excellent additions to B12 lite.

BYU would be a great possibility.

if the b-12 took tcu & hous.
with Okla in north div, it makes CCG more valueable,
Of course sch would have one permentant div oppononet to keep Tex & Okla game on every yr in Dallas.
If Tex ever decides to leave, they won't have the baggage to bring with them,
now that 5 other BCS Tex schools would have bCS home

You want this?

Big 12 North is Big 8 without Colorado & Nebraska
Big 12 South is SWC without Rice & SMU

Memphis would be the best fit for the Big12. Fantastic facilities in a large market plus a footprint into SEC territory. FedEx sponsorship dollars would be another plus.

TCU and Houston will never be added to Big 12. They don't add any additional TV sets (i.e. more revenue). I think BYU would make a good addition to the Big 12. If they could find another quality team to go with them I could see them getting an invite when the Big 12 TV deal is up (they won't add any teams right now unless Disney agrees to redo the TV contract). I think the hard part is going to find another team to join with BYU. The Big 12 would want Notre Dame, Arkansas, etc but those wouldn't join and I'm not sure the any other non-BCS school brings enough.

BOOO! Take Louisville and Memphis. Louisville has the #1 basketball revenue in the country and for 2010-2011 we have the #22 TOTAL athletic revenue in the country. We average 22,000 fans a game for basketball and average 51,000 for football with future plans to expand PJCS to seat 82,000. A top 25 METRO MARKET as well, did I mention our womens basketball team averages 11,000 a game...#2 in the country only behind the Lady Vols of Tenn.

They're not going to take anybody right away. They're going to play wait and see, try to make sure the superb revenue per team plan that they've developed pays out at what they think it will. None of the current schools are going to want to divide the pie in more pieces right now.
