The World Cup really appeals to those Europhiles who like to drop words like "nil" and "pitch" into common conversations. And what does a conversation in that stadium sound like with 20,000 horns imitating the sound of a swarm of bees?

Marc Fisher of the Washington Post summed it up: in the USA, soccer is a great sport for kids, but when they grow up they focus on real sports like football and basketball.

Well im definitly a Europhile, but i still feel sorry for anyone who cant enjoy Soccer.

I follow the English Premier League and Serie A Italy every year and will watch as many world cup games as i can.

Football and Basketball are my 2 favorite sports, but the World Cup is the best tournament in any sport hands down.

I have no love loss for Mexico but how about that blown offsides call late in the 1st half? That was clearly a legit goal, as RSA had a defender right on the goalline.

But the goalie was past the offsides line. The defensive player past the offsides line doesnt have to be the goaltender, it just usually is.

Great tie for the Americans. That was huge!

South Korea also smoked Greece 2-0. South Korea vs. Argentina should be a great one.

You must not hang out in the Hispanic neighborhoods of Dallas. They love soccer and would stab you in the neck if you said nil or pitch.

Soccer is the most popular sports in the world. Unfortunately it is rest of the world that don't care about American football. Americans are the only one who cares about American football while rest of the world care about soccer A LOT more.

Does Georgetown give Bachelors degrees in the obvious?

I don't see what that has to do with anything I said to you. I just said that you should go to Hispanic neighborhoods of Dallas and say "nil" or "pitch".

I was planning to watch the World Cup Soccer games. However, the Professional Bowling League was on at the same time. I couldn't decide which one would put me asleep faster. I'd predict the soccer tournament.

What an absolutely absurd "sport". I'd take women's beach volleyball anyday of the week.

Americas the only place where its "funny" to make fun of the most popular sport in the world.

And quoting sport when talking about soccer is retarded, theres more athleticism involved in that than any american sport outside of maybe basketball.

Back on subject...

Germany looked awesome. I didnt expect so much out of that young of a team but damn they looked good. It was really fun to watch. Their execution was perfect.

Sorry Bulls.......I'll stick with pocket billiards rather than a bunch of men kicking a ball around the field for 90 minutes (or however long it takes). If there ever was a "don't ask.....don't tell" sport, soccer would have to be it.

Im sorry you feel that way. Sad that sports fans will let themselves miss out on what is by far the best tournament in all of sports over an ignorant "its not american" mentality.

Yet you not only open but post on a soccer thread. Maybe you are curious about your "don't ask....don't tell" side?

I'm not exactly a Europhile but I do enjoy soccer and think its unfairly put down by people in a way that reminds me of a napoleon complex or ***** envy. Its a great sport really. For me hockey and baseball are my favorite sports followed by college football, but the two best, most exciting sports tournaments are without a doubt the World Cup followed closely by the NCAA Tournament. I'm looking forward to next year's tournament with the 4 play-in game model as it should now be perfected.
