Looks like Boise will get an invite to the mw on Monday. PAC10 has invites to some of the big 12 schools. Tons of stuff being talked about.

For us, as some of the CUSA teams will get invites to other conferences which will lead to some Belt football schools moving on.

Our home is the SBC and I would think we have enough teams in the league to survive a few schools moving on. I don't us moving or being pushed out. I do see middle, troy, and some of the other football schools moving on.

The SBC is going to be smaller, imo. It will not be stronger or weaker in BB.

The Big 12 was originally the Big 8, so they could probably survive. Don't know about the WAC.

Wouldn't shock me to see raids from the east and west gut C-USA leading to a 16 team Sun Belt even if it isn't using that name anymore.

I agree. I used to worry about the Sun Belt losing teams. Other than maybe, Western, I don't see a whole lot of marquee programs. We're all about at the same level and if there are big changes we'll end up in a conference, that maybe a little smaller, but will have 8 or more teams that are at about the same level we are.

I am not worried about the sbc or ualr. I think the sbc will survive and be ok and I think ualr will be part of it.

I think it is really strange that the big 12 could be one of the conferences that goes away.

Don't get me wrong... Troy has a very nice football program. I could be wrong, but I really don't think Troy will be the team that get's the invite.

Its all about money and what a program can do for the conference. On that basis, there are really only three things that matter (only three ways a program can make money for thier potential new conference).

1) a football program good enough to get into a bcs big time money bowl game. Is there any Sunbelt team that can do this? Maybe Troy. Troy is weak in the other two.

2) win ncaa tournament games in basketball and / or get at large bids. The only two teams that have proven they are capable of this in the Sunbelt are WKU and USA.

3) Have a large television market that can help the new conference get a better TV deal. This would lend itself to UNT, MTSU, FAU, and FIU. This is a killer for WKU, Arkansas State, and Troy.


There is really no team in the Sunbelt that really hits on all three of those cylinders.

Who comes the closest? FAU maybe? UNT maybe? USA is an upstart in football but they will be mining the same recruiting grounds as Troy. Thier market isn't huge, but Mobile isn't a small town either. I think USA might be the most likely.

That may put the sbc in the drivers seat. CUSA is going to lose a team or two and the WAC will too.

We just have to get the point that we are making the conference finals in BB. We know that Steve is a pretty good game coach in the regular season, he just has to put a team together that stands a chance of making the finals. Even the 23 win team really had no shot at making the finals with or without Moore. USA with all of its players healthy just picked us apart.

Rather than UALR moving to the Summit, it would make more sense for teams like Oral Roberts to move to the Sun Belt. I agree with someone who said the Sun Belt will probably survive with around 16 teams. It may not be called the Sun Belt, but it will be essentially the same type of league. I wouldn't mind having Texas San Antonio back in our league also. They were one of our biggest rivalries in the old TAAC. Murray State would also be a good addition.
