What's going on in Baseball?
Before this season there have been 18 perfect games in Major League history. If not for the blown call last night, that would have made 3 in one month period.

Good question. It is rather strange that there have only been 18 in over a hundred years, and now there SHOULD have been three in the past month. That one last night was a damn shame too. I don't know how in the world the umpire missed that one. It wasn't even a bang bang play. He was clearly out.

I feel terrible for the pitcher. I also feel quite badly for the ump. No one feels worse then him. As a 21 year umpire he knows more than anyone what a perfect game means. Took away a piece of history for a young man.

What's amazing is that it happened on what would (should) have been the last play of the game. If it happened early in the game, and the kid pitched a one hitter, it probably would have gotten some attention but would have quickly been forgotten. No one could argue, with assurance, that the kid would have been perfect for the next 7 innings if there was a blown call in the second inning, for example.

Mr. Galarraga maybe just became the most memorable of perfect game achievers. "The one that wasn't that was." Forever forward whenever the discussion of number of perfect games comes up there, Mr. Galarraga will be mentioned.
It is a shame though.

Maybe his getting screwed will be remembered for getting baseball to adopt available technology like virtually every other sport has done.
