Owls Ink Grayson's Osehmen
http://ksuowls.com/news/2010/5/25/MBB_0525101206.aspx

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head men’s basketball coach Tony Ingle and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics have announced the signing of Andrew Osemhen of Grayson High School to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls beginning in the fall of 2010.

“We’re very happy to have Andrew join our program,” said Coach Ingle. “He was recruited to help us with interior defense, rebounding and inside scoring to fill the void left by Jon-Michael Nickerson and Jonathan Whipple.”

Osemhen, a six-foot-nine-inch post player, comes to Kennesaw State after playing for Brian Anderson at Grayson High School where he was a four-year letter-winner for the Rams.

“What really impressed us as a staff is Andrew’s seriousness about being a great student in the classroom and being a very good person,” added Ingle. “He is a little raw at this point, but we feel that his best days are in front of him and provided he brings the work ethic we anticipate he will see some minutes as a freshman.”

Last season, Osehmen averaged 12 points and 9.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots while being named 2010 Gwinnett Tipoff Club All-County Team Honorable Mention selection. He also scored 11 points and nearly led Grayson to an upset of No. 9-ranked Central Gwinnett in the 8-AAAAA semifinals.

“Andrew has got a good opportunity in front of him,” commented Ingle. “If he works hard this season and is coachable, he will have a bright future with Kennesaw State.”

Osemhen is the fourth recruit and second local player signed by Coach Ingle and the Owls this season. He joins fellow newcomers Aaron Anderson and Mirza Sabic of Central Arizona College and Brandon Dawson of Tucker High School.

Been on a cruise the past week. Good to be back.

Least we signed a big guy.. now its time to find out where his talent/abilities are. I did see something listing him as 6'8 235lbs which is adequate for our conference. Lets just hope he isn't too soft.

I just wanted to post a picture that I found on Andrew...kid looks mean and really big. Talked with one of the coaches not too long ago, and he had high hopes for Andrew. Said that he wasn't as raw as some people were projecting. Has a great motor, and listens well - just needs some coaching to backup his physical ability.

Big men usually take longer to adjust than guards, but this kid looks pretty big. Will be great to see what our staff can do to build him into a great player. With his bulk, Ladaris length, Heramb and Dawson's skill, and Anderson's toughness we have the making of a very deep frontcourt.

Be interesting to see how it shakes out. At this point in time I'd be surprised to see him get many minutes this season. Other than Anderson I'm really not expecting much from this class in the upcoming season. I'm glad we were able to sign two high school kids though.. hopefully they have high ceilings and our coaches get the most out of them.

That is the great thing about Osehmen - he has time to develop. If we can get good bench production out of Anderson and Dawson that would give us a solid 5 man frontcourt rotation when you include Green, Heramb, and Zadrian. We return a lot of firepower, we just need for our new players to come in ready to play when they get the opportunity, and continue to improve. Would love to see one of these new guys push a returning starter to play better. I really saw some improvements from our team last year. Hopefully we can carry that over to the upcoming season.

Was that a joke Hunt? The kid has a 85 inch wingspan...do you realize that is a 7'1" wing span for a player that is around 6'7". Those are EXTREMELY long arms. 27" vertical is no high flyer, but think about this...the average head is about 8 inches...so let's just say that his shoulders sit at about 6' tall. Add the length of one of his arms (based on his wingspan) which is about 32 inches. So when he stands with his two hands in the air his stretch is 8'8" tall. You add a 27 inch vertical, that means if he stands under the rim, and jumps straight up to dunk it he has a maximum hight of 10'11" tall. That is not bad at all.

Most bigs need a little momentum anyway to get going, so you give him a drop step and he can throw it down easy in traffic. 6'7" 210 is not terrible at all for a freshman. Give him a year and a half on that frame, and I almost guarantee you that he will be up to 220-225 with ease. Ohsemen seems like a very good physical specimen - the question we have is how skilled a player is he. From what I have heard from the other coaches he could be a diamond in the rough. Time will tell, but lets not get down on him before we see him in action. He is one of the guys I am pretty excited about.

I really don't know much about him on the court. But 7'1" wingspan is a good half foot better than normal for his size. Normal wingspan is usually equal to your height, so 7'1" gives him a distinct advantage over the average 6'7" power forward.
