KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State head men’s basketball coach Tony Ingle and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics have announced the signing of Andrew Osemhen of Grayson High School to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Owls beginning in the fall of 2010.
“We’re very happy to have Andrew join our program,” said Coach Ingle. “He was recruited to help us with interior defense, rebounding and inside scoring to fill the void left by Jon-Michael Nickerson and Jonathan Whipple.”
Osemhen, a six-foot-nine-inch post player, comes to Kennesaw State after playing for Brian Anderson at Grayson High School where he was a four-year letter-winner for the Rams.
“What really impressed us as a staff is Andrew’s seriousness about being a great student in the classroom and being a very good person,” added Ingle. “He is a little raw at this point, but we feel that his best days are in front of him and provided he brings the work ethic we anticipate he will see some minutes as a freshman.”
Last season, Osehmen averaged 12 points and 9.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots while being named 2010 Gwinnett Tipoff Club All-County Team Honorable Mention selection. He also scored 11 points and nearly led Grayson to an upset of No. 9-ranked Central Gwinnett in the 8-AAAAA semifinals.
“Andrew has got a good opportunity in front of him,” commented Ingle. “If he works hard this season and is coachable, he will have a bright future with Kennesaw State.”
Osemhen is the fourth recruit and second local player signed by Coach Ingle and the Owls this season. He joins fellow newcomers Aaron Anderson and Mirza Sabic of Central Arizona College and Brandon Dawson of Tucker High School.
