What do we know for a fact about Denver's status in the SBC?

I don't KNOW anything, but it seems I've read either on this board or the ASU board that Denver doesn't offer enough sports, and will either have to add some, or pull out by a specific date. Does that ring a bell with anyone? mjs or PTJR should know more about this, or Arkstfan for sure.

We've been hearing about Denver possibly leaving the Belt for years now, and it surprised me that they're still there, and UNO is gone.04-cheers

We need Arkstfan to weigh in with the information on this one. I seem to recall that there was a deadline set by the Sun Belt Conference for UNO and Denver to sponsor the correct minimum number of SBC sponsored sports, but I can't remember the specifics. UNO dropping out of the league all together has made it a moot question for them. And now that we are at a nice neat 12 team league, I doubt that the SBC would want to push the issue with Denver at this point. But that is just a guess on my part.

I think I remember reading that they were mandated to add some sports by a certain date to stay in the league. I don't think they had any intention of doing it, since they have a number of sports that most Sun Belt teams don't have. I think it would be foolish for us to force them out now that we are down to twelve teams. We aren't going to add anybody better, unless the league is dead set on adding more football schools. Denver is the best academic school in the league and has won more national championships than all the other teams in the league combined.

RE: Denver?
With realignment looming again, sitting pat may be the best thing we can do.
