This made me cringe, but also realize UC football has come a long way.

Quote:The two teams will meet for the first time since 1987, a 40-16 Sycamores win in Terre Haute, Ind. UC leads the all-time series 3-1.

Indiana St. is bad now, but how bad could UC have been back then? Not only that, but UC was the visiting team. Nowadays a FBS playing at an FCS school would be laughed at. And Ball St. will do exactly that in a few years when the play at Illinois St.

You don't know the half of it. Cincinnati football didn't come out of the pits until our Humanitarian Bowl appearance vs Utah State in the mid-90s. We have come a long way.

No doubt. Having the home stadium condemned for years was loads of fun.

And of course threats of shutting down the program while only filling up a fraction of the stadium. Forget recruiting against Ohio State, we were, at one time, getting killed in recruiting by Miami-OH and the MAC. UC fans would have been happy with 8 wins and Top 25 votes, that would have been a miracle. To be a national power and annual New Year's Bowl participant as well as a national title contender? Unreal!

Heck, back in the 80's eight wins was the total some students saw while they completed their degrees! Freshman last year got that done by Halloween. 03-wink

That info is wrong. We beat them 40-21 in 1988.

Tim Murphy had UC at 8-3 in 1993, he really brought UC back to being respectable. What he inherited was really bad. I could swear that UC lost to Indiana St. at the "Hoosier" dome in the 88-89?

Why'd he leave and goto Harvard?

No support from the UC administration at the time. There was talk that UC was going to shut down the football program.

Murphy is from the Boston area, same with his wife. His Mom was very ill at the time and he wanted to get back home.
