From the video of Kibi on Jeff's website, he is
the most complete big man I've seen (assuming he comes) in a Trojan uniform in years. I don't know what type of competition he's playing against, but nobody in those videos seemed to be able to stop him. He has a very good touch around the basket with both hands, is powerful in driving through opponents, can run the floor, and can hit the outside shot. If he can do any of that here, I would say he's the ideal four, and might be the best we've seen here. Of course, as Trojan always says, let's see them play against Sun Belt competition before we put the mantle of greatness on them. But he looks very good to me. One thing you always worry about. Can he play defense without fouling out. If he can do that, he looks like a winner.04-cheers

Dr. J, I'm hopeful that Kibi will be a great player. But, come on, we're talking about a "highlight" video. The video is not going to show him missing shots, being stuffed, or getting the ball stolen. It's kind of like watching the Steve Shields Show game highlights and concluding that we are one of the best offensive teams in the country and should have been playing Duke for the championship.

Maybe I'm shooting too high for our program or just don't understand basketball, but how would a skinny, 6-6 kid who can slash be anything but a 3? I envision a PF as being a guy who is a big, tough, enforcer type who does the "dirty work" in the paint.

I take that skinny comment back. He's a bulked-up 230. Still, I would expect a PF to be a bit taller. Plus given his ability to drive to the basket why not put him at the SF position?

Yeah, but you are talking about a program where anyone over 6-5 plays the 5 spot.

Obviously it was a highlight film, but his strength and touch and ability to run the floor impressed me. I saw things I've not seen from most of our inside players. What I don't know is how good the competition was that he was playing against. But he does look like a player.04-cheers

He does seem to know how to use his bulk inside, and it appears he can make the three-foot putback, which is an increasingly rare ability these days.

The only problem is that if we make all those 3 foot shots, it cuts down on our rebounding stats.03-lmfao

You say what type of competition is he playing agaisnt...well Region 14(Jacksonvilles conf) along with Midland and Howards Region in my opinion are the two best Junior College Conferences in the country..Every team in those conferences usually send about 3-5 players to Division1 schools..Also Howard won the National championship this year and 5 teams from region 14 were ranked this season in the JUCO top 25..Not to forget that Jacksonville was ranked in the top 25 for half of Kibis freshman year..In my opinion most of the upper end teams in region 14 as well as Region 5 teams could give most SBC teams a good run..So hopefully that answers your question about competition..

Thank you. I wasn't putting the competition down. I just don't know much about juco leagues. I'm glad to hear he was doing that against good competition. If that's the case, he really does look like a sound player.04-cheers
