RE: Recruits for 2011-2012
I also noted on http://www.recruitrecon.com/ that we're looking at 6'7" Cameron Anderson. Here's what I was able to find on Anderson:

ESPN insider (85):
Anderson is a long and athletic power forward with great upside. He runs the floor extremely well rim to rim and can beat other post players down the floor for easy baskets with his consistent effort. He can rebound in and out of his area and although he is...

This is a stupid question, but when it says "Interest level" does that mean the player's interest in that school or the school's interest in that player?

Must not be too dumb if nobody knows the answer.

I always thought of it as a measure of how interested the college was. But I'm frankly not sure. Some of the categories seem to ask about the college (has an offer been made); some seem to ask about the kid (has he visited - has he accepted).

RE: Recruits for 2011-2012
Good question Mr.Tubbs--not sure myself.

So, if we've offered Cannon (and according to http://www.recruitrecon.com/index.php?op...=1&id=1185 we have), that means we now have 3 scholarship offers on the table (with one to give):
Lester Wilson-6'4" SG/SF, Knoxville, TN
Andre Smith-5'9" PG, Tampa, Fl.
John Cannon-6'10" C, Burnsville, NC

To replace:
Micah Williams
Justin Tubbs
Mike Smith
Tommy Hubbard
DeShaud Johnson

Given that we're losing so many in that 6'3"-6'6" range, I'm guessing we'll be in the market for another swingman.

Garland is still receiving interest from ETSU. Among others Minnesota and Georgia are the most noteworthy.[/u]

RE: Recruits for 2011-2012
Nice find, fan1. Maybe Sheldon, Adam, and Lukas can lure their fellow Floridian. It looks like that this kid is garnering a ton of offers and interest. Here's what ESPN insider says about Rembert:
http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-...wn-rembert

May, 2010: Rembert is a true shooting guard that is also a very good athlete. He spots up in transition and can catch lobs when he is ahead of the pack. He can make open threes with needed time and space. Rembert has a good mid range game as well. He is best going to his right for a one or two dribble rhythm pull up. He has good elevation extension and follows through. Rembert is a good ball handler and a capable defender. At times he disappears for periods of time but when he is aggressive he is productive.

October, 2009: Reshawn came into the event with a lofty reputation. He showed signs of being a strong periemeter player at the mid-major level, but did float at times. He is a big guard who handles well and can get his own shot. He is a decent athlete who can finish at the rim in both the half court and transition. He has a decent stroke from 3, but has a slow release on shots from deep. He is a good finisher who showed that he can post smaller guards at times with any mismatch.

September, 2009: Rembert is a very skill shooting guard that can score in a variety of ways. He is an athletic lob catcher in transition. He can knock down the open three off the catch or with one or two rhythm dribbles from penetration by spotting up or coming off screens in a set play. He has great size which helps him get off his floater in the lane where he displays great body control. Rembert usually draws fouls on these floaters when he does not score. He attacks defensive pressure due to him being a good ball handler and can score over smaller defenders with ease. Rembert is also a good enough passer to kick to an open teammate when he draws a second defender. At times he will drive into a congested area and turn over the ball or take a bad shot but for the most part he is skilled enough to find a way to get off a decent shot in tough situations. Rembert has improved since we have last seen him and if his improvement continues he has a chance to be a special guard in the state of Florida's 2011 class.

May, 2009: Rembert is an excellent athlete with tons of upside. He is a natural shooting guard with good size and strength for his age. He makes open shots with range to the arc on a consistent basis. He is a confident shooter with a quick trigger. Rembert has an excellent release and follow through and has good shot preparation. He sprints the lane in transition and understands how to space to the open area and spot up for the kick out three. Rembert also does a great job of sprinting off screens to get off his shot as well. Rembert also showed the ability to get to the rim especially along the baseline and is athletic and strong enough to finish in traffic. On the defensive end of the floor Rembert plays in a stance and competes with great energy. He must continue to develop his mid range game to complete his offensive package. He is capable of defending both wing positions because has good length and athletic ability. Another excellent young prospect to keep tabs on in the coming months.

September, 2008: Rembert is an athletic wing that can also help out at the point. He has long arms and good basketball body for a sophomore. He pushes the ball in transition on the pass or dribble and is a threat to get to the rim from the wing or the point if the defense fails to get him under control. Rembert can shoot the three off the catch with good results but move continue to work on shooting off the move by improving his footwork which is a direct result of lack of shot preparation. He must look to more attractive on the defensive glass which will provide him more coast to coast and fast break opportunities because he will be able attack sooner without waiting for an outlet pass. He is an excellent on ball defender that is capable of the defending all the perimeter positions because of size and athletic ability. His rate of improvement will determine his level with three high school seasons remaining.

Andre Smith to Winthrop according to ESPN. Also, UNF is off to a good start. Fred Landers a 6-6 PF from Ft. Lauderdale (grade 87 from ESPN) and a highly rated PG from Charlotte.

Thanks for the update. Point guard is not an urgent need next season, but will be in the next 2 years.

Point guard may be a hard sell for us this year in a world where recruits want guarranteed playing time immediately. Next year we'll have Sollazzo as a senior, Cooley as a junior and Woumn as a sophomore to compete with whoever comes in at the point.

Smith sounds like a special talent and you hate to lose anybody to Winthrop, but we'll have more pressing needs at shooting guard and, especially, small forward next year.

Why did we lost Smith? Could it be that he wanted to play in a conference where the competition was all within driving distance?

Did the loss of Coach Will Bailey, himself a former point guard, affect this decision? When it comes time to sign a letter of intent, many recruits cite the relationship with their new coaches.

If Wagers is our Tampa connection, and if we operate with a sense of the advantages of having connections, as I suspect we do, then...

Why can't Mister Jennings be our LOCAL connection, a hero of old times when ETSU basketball had its proper recognition? Bring the man back to the court, bring the locals back where they belong--not just through a glimpse of talent past, but through a promise of talent to come in the molding hands of a great?!

Of the schools mentioned here, the two with the basketball tradition are ETSU and Murray State.. If he wants to play in the NCAA tournament, it should come down to those two.. If he wants to be part of a rebuilding situation with very little chance of playing in the big dance, then maybe Buzz has a chance.. I suspect you will see Buzz going after the same type players and sometimes the same players we are recruiting.. but then a player has to ask himself..will he be gone somewhere else again next year??

RE: Recruits for 2011-2012
What local talent?

Before I answer, let me clarify: by local I really mean regional, i.e. TN, NC, KY, etc. By talent I mean any player posessing it or showing potential for it. The potential may be more within our reach. It's nice to have connections with Tampa and other areas, but for ETSU basketball to mean something we need a larger hegimony. Local and regional players should want to go here, thus hegimony, which should be warranted by a strong program with real coaching leadership. Why is it so hard for us to recruit worthwhile bigs, for example? They don't know who ETSU even is until we start contacting them, and then we have to convince them that ETSU is just as promising as the schools they have heard of. Sadly, lots of local players and, worse yet, should be fans, who do know ETSU often shrug it off as a nowhere/nothing school. We have a chip on our shoulder worse than Atlas, if you catch my drift. Mister Jennings back on the scene would remind us how great ETSU can really be. We need leadership like his to realize this goal.
