Finding Dory, there's claims of a lesbian couple and the sting ray is having a sex change.

Live action Beauty and the Beast there's a gay scene.

I've seen all three and thought nothing of what people are trying to push. Maybe it's because I enjoy seeing a movie and I'm more worried about being entertained than political overtones.

I plan on seeing this one. Just don't know if I'll go to the theaters or wait til I can rent it.

I would add the Hunger Games to that list as well.

True, some movies are more up front and in your face with their leanings, but most is nothing more than what one perceives.

Unfortunately, one could spin just about any movie to fit a narrative.

I heard "some" taking their white guilt to the next level and saying they wanted to "wait" to see BP as to not take anything away from black people. Guess those of us who are Marvel fans and want to see the latest Marvel blockbuster should just go away.

I also heard some talking about how great it was that there was finally a black comic book movie. Guess they forgot to see the three Blade movies, the first of which came out 20 years ago.

As for seeing Black Panther, I'd recommend it in the theater, the special effects make it worth seeing on the big screen.

Blade and Black Panther aren't that close of a comparison for that point IMO. Yes, the title characters are black, and yes they are super heroes, but the big difference is BP was set in Africa and had a predominantly black cast-- Blade not so much.

But for someone to play a white guilt angle to wait on seeing a movie is pretty stupid.

RE: The movie thread
So I saw BP today and my thoughts were as follows:

Chadwick Boseman and Michael P. Jordan did a great job.

I typically don't agree with Ta-Neshi Coates' political POV's but I thought he had a pretty good run writing the BP comic and much of that influence can be seen in the movie's plot.

The story does a decent job trying to explain why Wakanda chooses to isolate itself, which I felt was always a niggling detail in the comic book.

The fight at the end seemed contrived and created because that's what always happens in Marvel films. Either Warmonger needed to get to have an actual 20-40 man squad or the battle should have been only between him and T'Challa.

The only thing I could see anyone having issue with was Ross' treatment while they were at the Gorilla Tribe.

The post credit scenes were 'meh'

where was the Soul Stone? We know its in Wakanda and I figured that they'd introduce it before Infinity War.

I could take the praise if it was strictly about the movie. It ranks 3rd for me behind Iron Man 1 and Captain America 2. But as Badger MJ stated, many of the comments are venturing off into the fantastic. When people are complaining about why it took so long for something like this to come out and how they wish more comics existed for them, I can't help but reflect upon my childhood.

The Black Panther comic has been around for almost 50 years with middling sales at the best of times. Dwayne McDuffie's Icon and Millstone Comics lasted only four years and that MANTIS TV show just squeeked out two seasons. Storm has had 3 independent series that were all canceled inside a year. Where were all of these 'fans' back then when the industry needed them?

BP is lower tier 2 to me.

Tier 1:
Winter Soldier
Iron Man
The Avengers
Dr. Strange
Spiderman Homecoming

Tier 2
Thor Ragnarok
Civil War
Black Panther
Iron Man 2

Tier 3
Thor Dark World
Antman
Captain America
*it had to be the way it had to be to get Cap's background up for the current world they were taking the MCU to.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2: I loved this one way more than the first one.

Tier 4
Guardians of the Galaxy: TBH, I didn't feel this one.

Tier 5/worst
Thor: Was just done bad in terms of it felt a lot like we need to get a Thor movie made so this is what we will do. It was easily surpassed by Dark World and Ragnarok
Iron Man 3: The Extremis story line is a Tier 1 story line IMO but the movie felt very lacking
The Avengers: Age of Ultron: Ultron felt way more evil in the trailers than his actual reality in the movie.
Hulk: I liked Ed Norton's movie on the surface but it just wasn't up to the quality they have put into the other MCU movies.

I like how you didn't even acknowledge the existence of Iron Man 2. I while I'd rank Thor 2 lower than you did, I agree with your assessment of Avengers 2: the story was just a mess. I'm glad the Russo Brothers are handling Infinity War.

So much hate for Antman but I actually liked it. The sarcasm and jokes were clever. Hopefully the new Antman and Wasp movie coming out is good.

I need to see the Spiderman: Homecoming movie. I think it's on Netflix

I didn’t hate it, in fact I think at least from respondents on this board found it ok. But that is about the best thing that can be said.

Damn, LOL. I fixed that. IM2 was pretty solid and I liked the main villain's motives. Where it kind of dropped off for me was in Hammer's comic relief ...like... his comic relief and tone and acting... just felt out of sync with the other characters. Now he might have very well been that way in the comics so.... But he was my main weak point of IM2.

I liked Antman being so different from all the others and the comic relief, since it was kind of kept to his inner circle felt ok... in that fiends joking with friends way. I liked the story set up to. I hope they keep it going in Antman 2. I could get into Antman/Hank Pym and his issues with Stark and rehab vs. punishment and Ultron's creation but I think they worked around those far enough.

Aeon Flux (movie) / NF
--IMO, not a bad movie but seeing as I never watched all of the original animated series and thus didn't see its complete story and conclusion I don't know how accurate they followed the cartoon. Personally, I felt they did a good job with the casting and the action.

Darkest Hour - Really good, excellent story, Gary Oldman was incredible.

Death Wish - Pretty cookie cutter but it was great to see Bruce Willis killing people again.

Red Sparrow - It was OK, could have been great but missed the target.

How would it stack up against Charles Bronson's original?

I'd say the original was grittier while the remake was more shoot-em-up and bloody.

Moonraker / dvd
--Not one of my favorites, basically watched it again because its director passed.

The Spy Who Loved Me / dvd
--One of my TOP Bond movies and again I watched it because that director passed.

Justice League / BR
--I liked it. My only beef with the movie was The Flash's comic relief and somehow Cyborg kind of bugged me. I really liked Steppenwolf. Much better than DoJ.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight / BR
--Brother got this, and man... so dark, so riveting with some of the character placements as in characters as you have know them in slightly different roles. I really liked it. The bonus features were legit as well.

Jessica Jones S2 / NF
--a solid S2 IMO. I liked the background filler info.

Top Gun / BR
--just like the movie

Afro Samurai Resurrection / dvd
--such a cool movie. I am kind of disappointed they couldn't get to a part 3 of the series whether it would have been a multi-part episodic entry or another movie like 2 was.

Thor: Ragnarok / BR
--A perfect mix of action, sci fi, and humor. Hands down the best of the Thor movies and one of the top MCU movies overall.

Voltron S5 / NF
--This series just keeps getting better....

So is this one worthy of having in the library? I was so put off by 'The Killing Joke' and Haley Quinn that I had stopped automatically purchasing the DCAU titles.

Cyborg was kind of a downer.

I just started JJ S2 and have high hopes for it but it's tough to follow the Killgrave villain. He was really good.

What Top Gun are you referring to? The 1986 one or is there a new one that I need to drop everything to see. I LOVED this move as a kid and is still in my top 5 best movies. The magic of flight, Americana, and before Tom Cruise got weird. What's not to like?
