The movie thread

That because fans of the book are looking for an exact movie adaptation. That is in direct opposition the the studios desire to capture broad based fan appeal both domestically and abroad.

Marvel's Agents of Shield S1-4/ NetFlix
--Finished S4 a few days ago. I like the show. Interesting to see how it paralleled some stuff with the MCU movie side of things in relation to Winter Soldier, Avengers, and some other miscellaneous points in between. I think I'd say I liked it overall.

Voltron S3 / Netflix
--Another solid entry in the animated series. I really liked the back story episode of the paladins before the current paladins. Makes for a more real feeling of why Zarkon has his hard on for the Lions and some of the other relationships.

Taken 1-3/ BR
-1: I still think is the best one of the series in terms of it feeling original.
-2: I like the aspect of the father of the fallen guys from 1 decides to get revenge for his sons... but then when being confronted with what his sons were doing in the Human trafficking he seemed completely unaffected as it had no matter in the grande scheme of things.
-3: Not bad as a action movie and I liked the main plot and subplots running through it with his family, the cops looking for him, the jilted husband seeing his wife buddy up with her ex, the new husband's plan for revenge.

BladeRunner / BR
--One of my favorite scifi movies. The themes and philosophy it puts out about robots, cyborgs, androids, and humans is interesting. I'm still not convinced Deckard was a replicant but....

Castlevania S1 / NetFlix
--I think they did a good job with it. Would like to see how they proceed in S2.

Basic Instinct / BR
--I just love the did she/didn't she do it angle to the whole thing... then the current live in girlfriend, then the jilted gay lover fling from college... they played lots of the angles to the story with convincing detail.

RE: The movie thread
It / theater
never saw the original but I liked this one. Kind of makes me want to see the original to have a comparison. That said, I think the movie needed a few plot points explained better like the whole deal with Pennywise and the town along with the white kid who beat up the black kid.

Wonder Woman / BR
--Of the "new " DC era films this one is the best. Not sure how they could get this one so right while some of their other offerings have been kind of off--not saying DC has to follow the Marvel template though.

Guardians of the Galaxy V1 / BR
Bought it on sale to go along with V2 hitting store shelves. I liked it ok.... and some of the story elements were cool...

GotG V2 / BR
MUCH better than the first IMO.

Batman and Harley Quinn / BR
Brother got this and I watched it--it had its moments but didn't really get it done for me overall.

Rocky III/BR
Just kind of wanted to watch a boxing movie with the Mayweather/McGregor fight going on.... Mr. T and Stallone.... not a bad way to do it.

Spyhard / NF
Decent Leslie Nielsen spoof fest....

Police Academy / NF
THe original is still one of the best comedies I have ever seen.

Gotham S3 / NF
Just starting it as they just put up the episodes... not bad 4 episodes in IMO.

Terminator Genysis / BR
Not bad... in terms of plot points, but in terms of the franchise, yeah.... not great.

Terminator 2 Judgement Day / dvd
Not bad but I still have issues with the whole timeline/time travel premise of the entire series.

RE: The movie thread
South Park S20 / BR
--Pretty good line on internet trolling...

The Fate of The Furious / BR
--as a action movie, not bad... but this series keeps getting more impossible.

Ghost in the Shell / BR
--While a decent take on the anime, the live action adoption just wasn't the same thing.

Iron Man 3/ BR
--still prefer the animated series for Extremis.

The Longest Yard / NF
--I thought it was a well done remake and thankfully lacked Sandler's "trademarked" humor.

Young Frankenstein / NF
--I loved this comedy...

Friday the 13th/dvd
--just wanted to...

Jessica Jones S1/NF
--went back through the series... I really liked it and Killgrave has been one of the better villians

Luke Cage S1/NF
--Still not a bad solo effort for him. IMO, Copperhead and Mariah were way better villains than how Diamondback turned out. I really enjoyed Shades character too.

RE: The movie thread
Time to catch up on reviews.

1) Wind River - Loved it. Slow and methodical in a good way. Built up the suspense like a slow burn. Great story, better cast.

2) Hitman's Bodyguard - It was OK. Story was cookie cutter action flick. Jackson & Reynolds had pretty good chemistry but the rest was kind of blah. One of those wait for Netflix movies.

3) American Assassin - Decent, but one of those movies you couldn't help but think missed out on being great. Was missing that "something" if that makes sense. Still entertaining however. Keaton is great, especially when he plays that in control borderline psychopath.

4) Kingsman II - Not quite as good a story as the first, but filled with cool action scenes with bits of comedy. It's one of those movies that doesn't take itself too serious but knows it's fun. It's a good time, worth seeing in the theater. It's not Schindler's List quality, but it doesn't try to be.

The Foreigner / theater

Caught The Foreigner today.  I dug it a lot.  Finally a non-Comedic base Jackie Chan that was actually good.  I liked how Chan pulled off some good dramatic stuff as well as his martial arts fare.  I thought it was also a cool twist so to speak that he could do Spec Ops tactics like making home made bombs, booby traps, and camouflage/infiltration.  I also really liked Brosnan playing bad ass Irishman from the IRA side of things but having to play the political game now.   The only flaw I would go to in the movie is it seemed like it had too many plot twists but they weren't overbearing and were more of a motivational plat out of the course of animosity.  I was kind of surprised that given Chan's discussion with the police chief that he didn't go after that guy as hard as he went after Brosnan's character.

Spiderman Homecoming / BR

I liked it but what helped it was Keaton as The Vulture and the kid playing Spiderman. They did a good spin on the high school version of Peter Parker.

Friday the 13th I-VIII / dvd

Freddy vs. Jason / br

Halloween I - IV / dvd

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow / dvd

Batman and Two Face / BR
--that new animated Batman done from the 60s tv show aesthetic. Loved how they did the characters and the plot, and the overall ode to the classic tv show. Probably one of my favorite animated Batman movies.

I saw The Foreigner as well. I really liked it. It was kind of a throwback to the days when action/suspense movies weren't just about the special effects. This one actually had a story, some plot turns, twists in the story, etc. Being so used to seeing Jackie Chan as the Comic-Kung Fu star I was interested to see if he could do a drama/suspense movie. I'd say he pulled it off. You really seemed to feel his pain not only from the loss of his daughter but the lack of action in bringing down those responsible. Brosnan was equally good as the "baddie" who was having the moral dilemma of trying to walk the fine line between two worlds.

Overall, I'd highly recommend people check this movie out.

RE: The movie thread
Two more to review.

1) Only the Brave. Really good telling of the story about the Prescott AZ Hot Shot fire crew. Special effects give you some idea of how crazy people like that have to be in order to deal with the immense danger involved with fighting land fires.

2) Geostorm. I don't know if this will make any sense. It's a cheesy. It's awful. It's thoroughly fun. Kind of in the vein of The Day After Tomorrow and San Andreas. It's worth a Friday night Netflix evening if trashy Sci-Fi movies is on the agenda.

Thor Ragnarok/ theater

T3 Marvel movie right now. The humor, the action, the story, the end game... ALL EPIC. Winter Soldier, first Avengers, and this are my top 3 right now. Honorable Mention: Iron Man, Ant Man, Spiderman Homecoming, Civil War.
