RE: The movie thread
How did a blast wave look imminent until the put some actors in front of it then it seemed to move in complete slow motion while they were talking of performing an act? They were almost in suspended animation while conversations and some action happened in front of them when they were tight on the actors.

Ok. I'm not saying it's not worth a comment; just surprised that it's your ONLY one. I think there are lots of nits like that one to pick. e.g., Jyn (as a young girl) running to her house faster than an Imperial shuttle can fly there?

Well, if Vader and the emporer were truly good with the force how could they not locate the traitor? Why would the need a Death Star? I mean... yeah...

RE: The movie thread
finished metropolis yesterday. it felt like a cinematic obligation. it had the potential to be so dark and alter the course of film making. i dug it, even with that ferry prancing around. i thought he was gonna kiss that one dude several times. anyway, the movie was too safe

RE: The movie thread
Lets see here

The Killer/ BR
--epic Chow Yun-Fat / John Woo team up

Hard Boiled / DDCE dvd
--One of my favorites with Chow Yun-Fat

Tron Legacy / BR
--good sequel, wish they would have continued the story

Speedracer / BR
--I loved the live action movie

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation / BR
--one of the better in the series IMO.

Knightrider S3 & 4 / dvd
--finally finished the series after someone at work let me borrow his box set.

She Ra S1 / NF
--popped back up on NF so picked up where I left off. Still don't get how much better Hordak was over Skeletor.... considering He-Man was billed as the Flagship of the series.

X Files S5 - ...1/2 S6 / NF
--Still going strong in what I like of this series.

Spectre / BR
--not bad, but not great, in terms of Craig's Bonds.... IMO his best was Skyfall then followed by Casino Royale.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service/ dvd
--liked it.

LotR: Fellowship of the Ring / BR
--probably my favorite of the trilogy...

The Professional: Golgo 13 / dvd
--old school anime

Golgo 13: Queen Bee / dvd
--interesting follow up.

RE: The movie thread
Voltron S2 / Netflix
--pretty good second season IMO, but the end offered more questions than answers... wondering if they are setting up S3.

X Files S6/ Net flix
--nearly done... 2 episodes left.

Batman Forever / dvd
--the best last one of the original quadrilogy. Too bad #4 took everything barely passable in that one and amped it up to a annoyingly high level.

Spiderman trilogy / BR
--IMO 2>1>3. But the BR transfers are horrible in spots--very easy to pick up pixelization, video noise, and other compression artifacts from these movies. I'd swear my dvds looked better.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy Ex Ed. / Netflix
--Great trilogy and I really liked how in depth they went with her background after the first one.

Fifty Shades of Grey / BR
--I liked a lot of the story elements in it... Grey still gives off the serial killer vibe though LOL.

Fifty Shades Darker / Theater
--Felt like natural progression from the end of the first one but her new boss's antics and the running into Grey's dominant and how both were set up over the movie and at the movies end makes me thing something big will hit the fan in the 3rd one. Yes, I know the books are out there to see how this all gets resolved.

Suicide Squad / BR
--I still like it but you could tell the focussed this movie on Deadshot and Harley Quinn. Not that I have a issue with that but... I do think the directors cut helped a little bit. I think this movie was a little more watchable than the Batman vs. Superman one but I do think the villainess wasn't as well resolved as she should have been.

RE: The movie thread
Damn, this thread is dead as hell....

Let me go here first...

Alien Covenant / theater
--I liked it better than Prometheus. I liked a lot of the story elements and surprises in the movie. The action was top notch. But, I think its still missing "the thing" to make it a great Alien movie. I'm not sure what Ridley Scott is trying to do with these prequels to the movie that spawned the franchise but somehow.... they still haven't managed to get an Alien movie "right" after Alien and Aliens.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol II / theater
--I liked this one A LOT MORE than the first one. That said, I felt I needed to re-watch the first one to catch myself back up on the happenings that lead into #2.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales/ theater
--OK, as a PotC movie I liked it. I liked the plot, I liked the action, I liked the acting for the most part BUT, the main villain was not that great, his undead Pirates were done way better in the first movie, as well as some of the movie just didn't feel as fresh as the 4th one did. The cameos of Will and Elizabeth Turner were handled well. I liked their son was trying to free his dad and how he would have to go about it. I felt Barbosa was a good key part of the story. If they ever manage to make a 6th the really need to work out the main villain again.

Logan / theater and now on BR
--EPIC end to a decent movie trilogy of solo films. If I ranked them, I'd go 3 >2>1. I really liked the story about Logan coping with his own health issues while also trying to raise money to take care of Professor X who appears to be suffering from dementia. I highly recommend checking out the black and white version. I really loved the leader of the Reavers.... he just had that style to him.

Beauty and the Beast/ theater
--I actually liked it and some of the more in-depth story telling they did in the live action version.

Ghost in the Shell / theater
--I liked it as a entry into the series and I think they did casting fairly well. I liked the main villain's tie to the Major. That said, and while I still give that Scarlet Johansen has the action cred to pull it off, I don't understand why they didn't pull in a Asian actress to play The Major.

The Fate of the Furious/ theater
--not a bad entry.... but honestly... the more they try to expand this series universe the more it doesn't feel like part of its origins of being stuff within the street racing crowd. Right now it feels too bloated on its own needed excesses to be more than the film before it.

Various BR viewings:

IN honor of Roger Moore's passing
Octopussy, For Your Eyes Only, A View to a Kill, Live and Let Die / SE DVD

Top Gun

Logan

Fifty Shades Darker

Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, Alien vs. Predator

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
*Not bad, but not at the level of the Harry Potter films IMO.

The Avengers

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Thomas Crown Affair

Casino Royale

RE: The movie thread
I've been really busy with the school year winding down, so I haven't been able to add anything. So...

The Fate of the Furious was fun. I enjoyed it for exactly what it was; a silly Vin Diesel vehicle where stuff blows up, booties shake in front of the camera, and cars drive really fast. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was amazing; it was the perfect follow-up to the fantastic first movie. The only thing I didn't like about GotG V2 was the score; it seemed muted in comparison to the bombast that was the first one.

I'm going to see Wonder Woman tomorrow night, so I'll report back on that then.
