Sutherland averaged 10.1 points per game at South Plains. While Jeff says there's nothing official, it sounds to me like JAshaolu may know Sutherland personally and thus has some good inside info. Sutherland is originally from Canada, continuing the international trend in our recruiting.

Well, Christian Kabongo and Renaldo Dixon are also from Canada and did commit to New Mexico State so I would think there is something to this tweet.

From the newspaper in Las Cruces, NM today-
04/23/2010 05:02:18 PM MDT
LAS CRUCES — New Mexico State has added two more Canadian-born players to its 2010-11 roster.

Christian Kabongo and Renaldo Dixon have verbally committed to play for the Aggies and head coach Marvin Menzies.

I would say there is a pretty good chance that Mr. Sutherland will be a Trojan.

That would be bad. His stats are not DI quality. 10 points a game? Only 13 3 point attempts? Why not just let him go to Hendrix and we keep Ricky and/or Nick?

I'm sure he's a great kid and I mean no offense, but why do we need this guy at the expense of someone we already have here?

I was kind of thinking the same thing the other day. Are the kids we are signing definitely better than kids we will be running off? Of course, it may not be that we are running off players. Some may want to leave. Some may not make grades. We really don't know what's going on. We just have to hope that the kids we are bringing in are better than who we are losing. Like you, I'd hate to lose Nick. Here's a little more on Sutherland-

Averaged five points and five rebounds per game and had game highs of 17 points versus Midland January 15 and 12 rebounds against Scottsdale January 3. For his efforts Tramar was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. Academically, he earned two honor roll awards during the 2008-09 academic year. College Major: Engineering Hobbies: Fishing Personal: Born March 23, 1989 in Toronto, Ontario, Tramar is the son of Karlene and Cebert and he has three brothers and two sisters. From the Reebok Summer Classic following his senior year in high school-

Grassroots Canada

Tramar Sutherland: The versatile perimeter player had a great all-around game, demonstrating solid ability at both ends of the floor. He plays the passing lanes very well, and picked up several steals leading to easy transition points for himself and his teammates. Sutherland is athletic and can get to the rim consistently. He can also handle the ball well, and is a solid passer with good vision.

Too bad we have all these guards and we [try] to play Big-10 style ball.

Please, please, please change the offensive philosophy.

RE: South Plains guard heading our way?
Some of us have become skeptical about our recruiting. Maybe this will be a good one, law of averages you know someday it has to happen. On the surface, this seems to be just another "filler". Questions that come to my mind. Did our coaches actually see the young man play? It says he started about half the games. If he is D-1, why did he not start all the games? Who else was interested? Why did he not sign with New Mexico? Someone questioned the lack of scoring. When have we been interested in a high scoring player? Did we send out a fax requesting anyone unsigned, please call UALR?

I am fairly certain that Mendoza and Marlo will be back. I think Bozeman and Courtney will be back. I don't have a clue after that.

RE: South Plains guard heading our way?
I couple always go every year. Every kid wants to play and if it takes moving to another school or down to d2 they want to play.

The coaches want players that fit their system and will play together. I am through bashing either side in the turn over that happens every year in all d1 programs. I want to see some wins that add up to a strong finish inthe SBC tournament and a invite to one of the 4 tournaments at the end of the year.

I don't want to go to Hot Springs and be a Harp seal on the ice to be beaten to death like the USA game again. I want to go down there and finish strong even if we lose. We did that this year but we would have gotten smashed in the next game.
