Maybe Coach Shields could slide over one chair and let the master take the reins again.

Not taking away what he did hear 25 years ago. But the "master's" time has passed. He is an average DII coach. No more, no less.

No, he isn't. How can you be a good coach when it is a question if you can even make it to the game - every game? He might know what to do, but it takes a certain amount of drive and energy to do it.

I am not saying Newell is past being a good coach, but I seriously doubt he could do now what he did in the 80's.

Has Newell missed any games? I would doubt that. Where do you get that Pappy? I know some of the guys here don't like Newell, but come on.

I watch quite a bit of D2 ball and in my opinion Newell is far above an average D2 coach. To win with any regularity at UAM without a full time assistant in a small town with sub par facilities is an impressive accomplishment. I wish he would have gotton the ULM job and hope he gets another D-1 shot but I will concede his time line is getting shorter and shorter

Some folks dispise Coach Newell more than anything Razorback.

I was talking about Wooden. Scotto has commented about him.

Looks like Coach Richardson's time hasn't passed him by.

Oh yeah, he was a former UAF coach. Never mind.

And did you see where Kim Sitzman was signed to a contract by Coach Richardson's team in the WNBA? I know we'll all be pulling for Kim. And if Nolan coaches women the same way he did men, maybe she can learn some extra tricks for when she becomes a coach.04-cheers

RE: Newell still available
So the moral of the story is that SOME coaches do indeed forget how to coach over time.

Interesting.

Yes, I believe that some here really get their jollies when Newell doesn't get a D-1 job. Didn't hear any of these complaints when he was leading us to 5 straight 20+ win seasons and 3 NCAA apperances, and a NIT final four. Newell can still coach. I agree that his age is beginning to probably play a part in whether or not he can get another job. Most schools want a younger coach now days.
